Can Harikrishna score the biggest victory of his career?

16/11/2017 -

The Grand Prix series until now was not the most exciting string of tournaments held. Mainly because of the high number of draws in the past events. But the last leg held at Palma De Mallorca, Spain, which will begin from 16th of November, is extremely exciting, because two spots from the Candidates 2018 will be decided from here! Two players who have the best chance to make it are Teimour Radjabov and MVL. For Indians it will be interesting to see how Harikrishna fares at this event. He has proved by holding his own against the best, but can he beat them and emerge as the winner? We will have to see.

Anupam and Om are the National Under 9 Champions

15/11/2017 -

To get a taste of the young talent in India, you should have been at the recently concluded National Under 9 Chess Championship in Gurugram. The tiebreak here was decided by the head to head encounter between the tied players. In the final round, two players who were leading the tournament by a one-point margin had to suffer a bitter defeat and their opponents got ahead of them. This clearly indicates that a new generation of chess players is in the making, which isn't only aggressive but knows very well how to perform under pressure. In the Open group, it was Om Kadam from Maharashtra who clinched the title while among the girls, Anupam M Sreekumar wore the champion's crown. A report.

Play it wicked with the Veresov

12/11/2017 -

From Tartakover in the early 20th century to Morozevich and Nakamura today, all have enjoyed sidestepping the well-trodden paths of the Queen's Gambit and the umpteen Indians and venturing into the waters of the wicked Veresov Attack every now and then. On some occasions, it was used for quick draws; on some others, for a full-blooded fight. Nevertheless, it has always been a great surprise weapon. When Davide Nastasio felt the need to add the Veresov to his arsenal, he couldn't think of a better way to learn it than from IM Andrew Martin's DVD on the opening. In this review, he shares his impressions.
