Vishy Anand becomes the Education Ambassador of WWF India

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of WWF in India, the seven-time World Champion Vishy Anand announced last week on his twitter that he has become the Education Ambassador of World Wild Fund for Nature India. His aim as the ambassador is to bring the youth closer to the nature. On Earth Day, the legend mentioned about reconnecting with nature and protecting the environment for future generations. This is not only a great news for everyone concerned about the environment but also for the chess universe as Anand once again shows the way to become a champion off the board and make a positive contribution to the society. The Sultan Khan Cup sponsored by IPS Academy and hosted on Playchess will be organized on 9th May 2020. IPS Academy is one of the largest educational hubs of Central India. With the support of Mr.Achal Choudhary, the founder of IPS Academy and Madhya Pradesh's first IM Akshat Khamparia, the Sultan Khan Cup will be organized by ChessBase India on Playchess. The total prize fund is Rs. 101,000. This is the biggest online event ever to be held by ChessBase India in terms of the prize fund and the number of prizes. The first prize will be ₹20,000. There are 20 main prizes and several rating category prizes as well. The tournament is held in the honour of India's legendary chess player - Mir Sultan Khan.

Praggnanandhaa wins 5th Saturday Online Blitz Open 2020

Chessworld1 - GM R Praggnanandhaa finished his Saturday Online Blitz Open just the way he started, by winning the tournament. He scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 5th Saturday Online Blitz Open. He finished a full point ahead of the competition. Four players finished at 7.5/9, they are GM Gukesh D, GM Aravindh Chithambaram, GM Arjun Erigaisi and GM Raunak Sadhwani. They were placed second, third, fourth and fifth respectively according to their tie-break score. The third edition of the weekly tournament witnessed the participation of 190 players comprising of 16 GMs, 23 IMs, 3 WGMs and 6 WIMs from India, Argentina, Colombia, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Peru, Romania, Singapore, USA and Uzbekistan. Online Nations cup will see Vishy Anand back in action from 5th to the 10th of May

Now that it is clear that most of the over-the-board events this year will be cancelled, FIDE has announced a new online policy. The first of the events they have announced is the FIDE chess. com online nations cup that will be held from the 5th to the 10th of May 2020. Six teams will take part in it and they are Russia, USA, China, India, Europe and Rest of the World. Each team will have one female player. Vishy Anand will spearhead the Indian team. Garry Kasparov will be the captain of the European team. Vladimir Kramnik who had been mentioned as the captain of Indian team in the FIDE Press release, said that he won't be participating in the event.

Sunilduth Lyna Narayanan wins Buddhibal Kreeda Trust Online Blitz Open

The strongest ChessBase India Online Blitz event was won by GM Sunilduth Lyna Narayanan. He scored an unbeaten 8.5/9, finished a full point ahead of the competition to win the tournament. He won ₹10000 cash. Last month he won his first ChessBase India Online event March Masters Open. Both GM Diptayan Ghosh and GM Jose Eduardo Martinez Alcantara of Peru scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed second and third to earn ₹5000 and ₹3000 cash respectively. The tournament witnessed 171 players including 27 GMs, 36 IMs, 2 WGMs and 8 WIMs fighting for a total of ₹30000 prize fund. The entire prize fund was sponsored by Buddhibal Kreeda Trust and the entry fee collected was donated to the PM Cares and CM Relief fund.

Aravindh, Gukesh and Arjun are the top seeds in 5th Saturday Online Blitz Open 2020

The 5th edition of Saturday Online Blitz Tournament Open will take place this Saturday 18th April 2020. This is the final edition of this Circuit. Currently GM Diptayan Ghosh leads the Circuit standings with 28 points followed by GM Arjun Erigaisi and GM Raunak Sadhwani at 20 and 19 points each respectively. Arjun won the 4th edition and this is his second triumph in the Circuit as he already won the 2nd edition. Although Diptayan still has an eight-point lead, if both Diptayan and Arjun finish with the same score at the conclusion of 5th and final edition of the Circuit, Arjun will be declared the Circuit Champion as he had two first-place finishes. The 21-day training with IM Sagar Shah raises Rs.1,17,054 for the fight against Corona virus

The 21-day training camp - "Improve your chess with IM Sagar Shah" began on the 25th of March and came to an end on 14th of April 2020. Each day over 300 participants would join in to the YouTube live session at 9 a.m. in the morning IST and Sagar would train them in the method of thinking using Jeremy Silman's concept of Imbalances in chess. The initiative was also raising funds for the PM CARES fund. IM Sagar Shah and Niklesh Jain's sessions in Hindi (in the evening) managed to raise Rs.1,17,054. In this article you get a glimpse of what was taught by Sagar on each of the days of the camp along with the video embeds of all of the days of the training. 

Indian-Lion GM Arjun Erigaisi Roars again

Indian-Lion - GM Arjun Erigaisi scored 8.0/9 to win 4th Saturday Online Blitz Open. He finished a half point ahead of the competition. Three players finished at 7.5/9, they are GM Jakhongir Vakhidov of Uzbekistan, GM Raunak Sadhwani and Pranav V. They were placed second, third and fourth respectively according to their tie-break score. The third edition of the weekly tournament witnessed the participation of 196 players comprising of 12 GMs, 23 IMs, 3 WGMs and 5 WIMs from India, Algeria, Bangladesh, Colombia, England, France, Romania, Singapore, USA and Uzbekistan. Diptayan maintained his lead of the Circuit standings at 28 points. GM Arjun Erigaisi jumped to second spot with 20 points, this was also his second Saturday Online Open triumph.
