Prague Masters 2023 R7: Ray Robson outplays Vincent Keymer, gains sole lead

Ray Robson (USA) defeated one of the coleaders, Vincent Keymer (GER) to emerge sole leader at the Prague Masters 2023. Pentala Harikrishna had another hard-fought draw against Sam Shankland (USA) to move to 3.5/7. He is now a full point behind the leader along with five more players. The other previous round leader, Bogdan-Daniel Deac (ROU) drew against Hao Wang (CHN) to move to 4/7. GM Deep Sengupta continues to stay in the championship hunt as he won a positional skirmish against IM Hilmir Freyr Heimission (ISL). He is now a half point behind the leaders - IM Ekin Baris Ozenir (TUR) and IM Jakub Fus (INA) at 6.5/7 each in the Karel Janeček Open, part of 5th Prague International Chess Festival 2023. TM GCL Day 7: Carlsen wins an exquisite endgame against Anand, powers his team to the top with Pragg

Vishy Anand vs Magnus Carlsen games are always the highly anticipated encounter of the day, no matter what the event or the stage is. The rematch between two of the greatest was arguably the game of the tournament so far. It is definitely one for the books. The endgame seemed to be heading towards a draw when the world no.1 went for a break. It actually allowed Anand to salvage a draw. However, time trouble induced a human error, turning things once again towards the Norwegian's favor. After an exchange of smile, avoidance of stalemate trap and underpromotion later, Carlsen defeated Anand in a stellar game. His and Praggnanandhaa's win ensured SG Alpine Warriors knocking off Ganges Grandmasters from the top of the leaderboard. Kandi Santosh Sai Karthik dominates 1st Telangana Gurukulams Below 1600 Rating Tournament 2023

Kandi Santosh Sai Karthik scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 1st Telangana Gurukulams All India Below 1600 Rating Tournament 2023. The 12-year-old finished a half point ahead of the field. Five players - Rohith N, Sree Shaunak Chanda, Phani Krishna C H, Sree Rama Anjani Kumar K and Surya Alakanti scored 8/9 each. They were placed second to sixth respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹499999. Top three prizes were ₹50000, ₹30000 and ₹15000 along with a trophy each respectively. The tournament was held from 2nd to 4th June 2023 at Sri Kotla Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy Stadium in Hyderabad, Telangana. Sparkassen Chess Trophy 2023 R4: Aryan and Donchenko are the coleaders 4/4

GM Leon Luke Mendonca held Germany no.2 GM Matthias Bluebaum to a draw in the fourth round of Sparkassen Chess Trophy 2023 Open, part of 50th International Dortmund Chess Days. The teenager made a nice positional exchange sacrifice. The continuation to capitalize on his advantage was quite complex for human to find. Naturally, Leon did not play it and the game ended in a draw. GM Aryan Chopra defeated IM Arthur Guo (USA) after a 5.5 hour long battle to maintain his lead with GM Alexander Donchenko (GER) at 4/4 each. They will inevitably face each other in the fifth round. GM Deep Sengupta defeated FM Jakub Stinka (CZE) to stay in the championship hunt at Karel Janeček Open, part of 5th Prague International Chess Festival 2023. Five players are in the lead 5.5/6 including the top seed GM Vojtech Plat (CZE) and previous round leader, IM Stavroula Tsolakidou (GRE). GM Pentala Harikrishna drew his sixth consecutive game in the Masters section. Vishy Anand has defeated Jan-Krzysztof Duda twice in five days. The legend continues to make it look easy. The Poland no.1 sacrificed an exchange and things did not work out for him. Anand's win did not help the team as he scored the sole victory for Ganges Grandmasters. Yifan Hou had a great chance to win against Alexandra Kosteniuk. Unfortunately for her, she couldn't find a way in time trouble. Harika Dronavalli and Jonas Buhl Bjerre scored crucial victory for upGrad Mumba Masters to beat Triveni Continetal Kings. The historic 50th International Dortmund Chess Days is having four tournaments in which a combined total of 568 players are taking part. 326 in Sparkassen Chess Trophy Open A, 228 in Open B, ten in Sportland NRW Cup and four in NC World Masters 2023 from a total of 43 countries across the world. GM Aryan Chopra and GM Leon Luke Mendonca are in an eight-pack lead with GM Matthias Bluebaum (GER), GM Alexander Donchenko (GER), GM Michael Adams (ENG), GM Frederik Svane (GER), GM Ori Kobo (ISR) and IM Arthur Guo (USA) with a perfect 3/3. It was only a question of how big Vietnam would win, and the final tally of 92 Gold, 37 Silver, and 49 Bronze said it! When second placed Philippines had “only” 15 Gold, 38 Silver and 8 Bronze, followed by India with 3 Gold, 3 Silver and 3 Bronze, the extent of their domination becomes even more clear. New Zealand was a surprise fourth on the basis of medals won in the seniors event, Myanmar fifth, and then Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, China and Malaysia with medals. Vishy Anand continues to lead by example. Once again he won the battle of the 'Icons' against Levon Aronian (TCK). While his three points was confirmed, his teammates Leinier Dominguez Perez, Yifan Hou and Bella Khotenashvili scored emphatic wins to ensure their team score the biggest victory of the event in terms of game points 14-2. Balan Alaskan Knights overcame their 3-15 loss as they beat the top team SG Alpine Warriors 3-0 (10-9) by a minimum margin. Nodirbek Abdusattorov, Zhongyi Tan and Nino Batsiashvili's wins rendered R Praggnanandhaa and Magnus Carlsen's individual triumphs ineffective as they only added game points, while BAK won the match. Vijay Shreeram P clinches 2nd SSS Rating Open 2023

Vijay Shreeram P scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 2nd SSS Rating Open 2023. He finished a half point ahead of the competition. Five players - Selvamurugun B, Saravanan, Arul Prakash N, Sa Kannan and CM Mrithyunjay Mahadevan scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed second to sixth respectively. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹400000. Top three prizes were ₹25001, ₹15000 and ₹12500 each respectively. The tournament was held between 29th May and 2nd June 2023 at Chendhuran College of Engineering and Technology, Pudukottai, Tamil Nadu. It was organized by Sri Sai Saravanaa Academy. He is the sole Indian and one of the seven players at a perfect score in the Karel Janeček Open, part of the 5th Prague International Chess Festival 2023. In the Masters, Pentala Harikrishna drew his fifth consecutive game against the Czech Republic no.1, David Navara. Ray Robson (USA) defeated Hao Wang (CHN) to join the lead with Vincent Keymer (GER) and Bogdan-Daniel Deac (ROU) at 3/5 each. Harikrishna, Navara, Sam Shankland (USA) and Haik Martirosyan (ARM) are in pursuit at 2.5/5 each. Today is a rest day for the Masters and Challengers section. One Berlin fell, the other one didn't. Magnus Carlsen's Berlin did not hold up against Maxime Vachier-Lagrave. However, D Gukesh's Berlin proved to be strong enough to hold Alexander Grischuk to a draw. It was R Praggnanandhaa's win against Javokhir Sindarov helped SG Alpine Warriors beat upGrad Mumba Masters. It was a win by a minimum margin 0-3 (7-8). Before that, upGrad Mumba Masters handed Ganges Grandmasters their first defeat of the event. Despite, MVL losing to Vishy Anand, Grischuk and Harika Dronavalli's key victories ensured the fall of GG's. Vietnam dominates ASEAN+ Age-Groups Standard Chess Championships 2023

The first competitions - Standard Chess (Individual and Teams) - saw Vietnam taking a massive 30 Golds, 14 Silvers and 19 Bronze, with second placed Philippines far behind with just 5 Gold and 12 Silver! No less than 10 countries medalled, in third place Myanmar, then followed by New Zealand, hosts Thailand, India, Indonesia, China, Malaysia, and Singapore. In Individual competition, most eyes were on the U-20 competition which gave a GM norm together with the direct IM title and in the Open, IMs Daniel Quizon and Michael Concio Jr. of the Philippines took Gold and Silver ahead of Vietnam’s Duc Tri Ngo, Malaysia’s Jun Ying Tan and Thailand’s Pin Laohawirapap, all who shared Bronze.
