Maxime Vachier-Lagrave dominates Tata Steel India 2023 Rapid, Praggnanandhaa third

The World Blitz 2021 champion, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (FRA) won Tata Steel Chess India 2023 Rapid with an unbeaten 7/9. It was his debut tournament in Kolkata, India where he won the event with one round to spare. He defeated Arjun Erigaisi and Pentala Harikrishna to clinch the first place. The last round result became immaterial. Thus, he made a quick six move draw against the eventual runner-up, Teimour Radjabov (AZE). R Praggnaanandhaa defeated Vidit Gujrathi, lost to D Gukesh and then won against his good friend, Arjun Erigaisi to finish third 5/9. Alexander Grischuk and Vidit also scored the same 5/9. Vishy Anand inaugurates Tata Steel Asian Junior Open and Girls 2023

Vishy Anand inaugurated the Tata Steel Asian Junior Open and Girls Chess Championship 2023 in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. He declared the meet 'Open' in presence of Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President Corporate Services, Tata Steel and 'Hati', the official mascot. IM Srihari L R and WIM Saina Salonika are the highest rated Indians in Open and Girls category. The championships will start with Rapid event tomorrow, Friday 8th September from 9 a.m. IST at JFC Lounge, JRD Tata Sports Complex, Jamshedpur. Tata Steel is synonymous with the chess universe since 1986. From 2018, Tata Steel Chess India, India's first super tournament started in Kolkata. FIDE World Women's Team 2023 R1-2: A mixed start for India

Indian women made a good start at FIDE World Women's Team Championship 2023. They won the first round 2-0 against France. IM Vantika Agrawal and IM Divya Deshmukh scored the wins against IM Deimante Daulyte-Cornette and IM Anastasia Savina, IM Padmini Rout and WGM Savitha Shri B drew against IM Sophie Milliet and WGM Hejazipour Mitra respectively. In the second round, India lost against Kazakhstan 0-2. GM Harika Dronavalli, Vantika and Padmini drew against IM Bibisara Assabayeva, WGM Meruert Kamalidenova and WIM Alua Nurmanova. Savitha lost to WIM Amina Kairbekova which cost team the match. India will face Ukraine and Georgia in Round 3 and 4 which starts today at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. local time, 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. IST. Tata Steel India 2023 Rapid R4-6: MVL emerges sole leader, A relatively good day for Vidit

The World Blitz 2021 champion, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (FRA) scored 2.5/3 today to gain sole lead 4.5/6. He is the only player to remain undefeated so far. Teimour Radjabov (AZE) is the sole player at 4/6. Four players - R Praggnanandhaa, Vidit Gujrathi, Alexander Grischuk, D Gukesh are at a full behind him 3/6. Among the Indians, only Vidit scored 2/3 which is the highest. He defeated Gukesh and Radjabov, lost to Arjun. Arjun probably had the most saddening loss of the day. He was completely winning against Grischuk until he landed himself in a mating net. Last three rounds left. Indians to have their best day tomorrow to make a great finish. Shrayan Majumder clinches Tata Steel Chess Festival 2023 Rating Open convincingly

Shrayan Majumder (MAH) scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 to win Tata Steel Chess Festival 2023 All India Rating Open. He finished a half point ahead of the field. Six players - Rupam Mukherjee (WB), Arindam Mukherjee (Railways), Ritabrata Chakraborty (WB), Bivor Adak (WB), Kunal Chatterjee (WB) and Aatreya Saha (WB) scored 7/9 each. They were placed second to seventh respectively. The total cash prize fund of the tournament was ₹300000 + trophies. Top three prizes were ₹50000 + trophy, ₹30000 and ₹20000 each respectively. This was Shrayan's first rating tournament triumph of his career. 11-year-old reigning West Bengal State Women's champion, Arhashirsha Biswas scored 6.5/9 to finish ninth. Harika will spearhead India at FIDE World Women's Team Championship 2023

Indian Women's team won a historic Silver medal at the previous edition in 2021. However, this time they would definitely like to aim for the Gold. GM Harika Dronavalli is the sole member from that team. She will be joined by IM Padmini Rout, IM Vantika Agrawal, WGM Savitha Shri B and newly crowned Tata Steel Chess India 2023 Women Rapid winner - IM Divya Deshmukh. India is in Pool A with Georgia, Ukraine, France, Kazakhstan and Egypt. Pool B has USA, China, Germany, Poland, FIDE Americas and Bulgaria. Top four from each Pool will advance to the Quarterfinals. Tata Steel India 2023 Rapid R1-3: Gukesh shows why he is India no.1 with majestic play against Harikrishna

D Gukesh climbed the ranks and created history after history for reason. He makes a steady progress, plays human chess, makes good decisions on the board. In the first round, he made a great save against his nemesis - Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB). In Round 2, he exchanged his queen for three minor pieces of Harikrishna within first 20 moves. He beautifully played the rest of the game and won it convincingly. In the third round, Gukesh had a great decisive advantage against Alexander Grischuk. However, the teenager pushed the pawn a bit early which lacked support. The three-time World Blitz champion, escaped with a draw. Kartavya Anadkat scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win Rotary Thane Midtown Rapid Rating Open 2023. He finished a half point ahead of the field. Aakash Sharadchandra Dalvi, GM Vishnu Prasanna V, IM Ratnakaran K and FM Ritvik Krishnan scored 8/9 each. They were placed second to fifth according to tie-breaks. Kartavya's sole draw occurred against WFM Bhagyashree Patil in the seventh round. Bhagyashree is the sole female finisher among top 35. She scored 7.5/9 to secure sixth place. The total prize fund of the event was ₹250000. The top three prizes were ₹40000, ₹30000 and ₹20000 along with a trophy each. Wenjun Ju conquers Tata Steel India 2023 Women Blitz, Humpy second and Harika third

The four-time reigning Women's World Champion - GM Wenjun Ju (CHN) became Tata Steel Chess India 2023 Women Blitz champion. Despite starting with only 0.5/3 on the final day, the World no.2 woman scored 5.5/6 in the last six games to reassert her dominance. It was a closely fought event as after Round 16, three players GM Koneru Humpy, GM Harika Dronavalli and Wenjun were at 10.5/16 each. In the final round, Humpy defeated Divya, Wenjun beat GM Anna Ushenina (UKR) and Harika lost to IM Polina Shuvalova. Thus, Wenjun won the tournament 12.5/18. Rishabh Nishad triumphs at Chess for Everyone Rating Open 2023 in Himachal Pradesh

Rishabh Nishad (UP) scored eight straight wins to clinch Chess for Everyone Rating Open 2023 in Himachal Pradesh. He won the tournament with a round to spare. A last round loss against his state mate Anshu Kr. Pathak, did not deter his championship hopes. Four players - Dev Krishan (HP), Pankaj Verma (HP), Anshu and Deepak Batra (PUN) scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed second to fifth according to tie-breaks. The total cash prize fund of the tournament was ₹35000. Top three prizes were ₹9000, ₹7000 and ₹6000 along with a trophy each. The tournament was held from 12th to 16th August 2023 at Hotel Shimla Hills International in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. It was organized by Himachal Pradesh State Chess Association. This was Rishabh's first tournament triumph of the year. GM Mitrabha Guha, IM Kushagra Mohan, IM Sharan Rao, GM Vishnu Prasanna V and Jagadish P scored 8/9 each at 1st JK's ECA One Day Rapid Rating Open 2023. Mitrabha won the tournament due to better tie-breaks. The remaining four were placed second to fifth respectively. Mitrabha started with eight consecutive victories. His last round loss against Vishnu did not deter his championship chances. Only Sharan remained undefeated among the top five finishers. The total prize fund of the event was ₹400000, 74 cash prizes and 88 trophies were up for grabs. Baadur Jobava dominates Riga Technical University Open 2023 E Opening Blitz, Nitish Belurkar second

Baadur Jobava (GEO) scored an unbeaten 10.5/11 to win Riga Technical University Open E Opening Blitz 2023. He finished a full point ahead of the competition. IM Nitish Belurkar scored an impressive 9.5/11 to secure second place. He is the sole IM among top four finishers. Nitish's only draw was against Jobava and the only loss occurred against the eventual second runner-up, GM Paulius Pultinevicius (LTU). He scored 9/11 to finish third. The total prize fund of the event was €1000. The first prize was €170. Nitish performed at 2555 and gained 57 Elo rating points. He also scored 7/9 in the Tournament A to secure a seventh place finish. He gained a valuable 18.4 Elo rating points, taking his rating to 2451 in September 2023 FIDE Rating list. Tata Steel India 2023 Women Blitz R1-9: Harika and Wenjun are the coleaders

GM Harika Dronavalli and GM Wenjun Ju (CHN) are the coleaders 6.5/9 of Tata Steel Chess India 2023 Women Blitz. Harika made her intentions clear from the very get go when she grinded an equal rook endgame until her opponent, yesterday's winner, IM Divya Deshmukh crumbled. It was the longest game of the day which lasted 137 moves. Harika's sole loss of the day was against GM Koneru Humpy. The reigning four-time Women's World Champion started with a draw against Humpy. She won the next three games before losing two in-a-row against IM Polina Shuvalova and Harika. Then she won the next three to share the lead. Humpy and Divya are in pursuit at 5/9 each. GM Karthikeyan Murali scored an unbeaten 7/9 to win 1st Imaweb Trophy GM Tournament 2023. Karthikeyan finished a half point ahead of the field. IM Dominik Horvath (AUT) was placed second. He scored sole 6.5/9. Third place was claimed by GM Karen H Grigoryan (ARM). He made 6/9 and also remained undefeated. He drew against the eventual champion, Karthikeyan in the final round. The total prize fund was €6000. The top three prizes were €2500, €2000 and €1500 each respectively. This is Karthikeyan's first rating tournament triumph of the year.
