21st ASEAN+ Age-Group Championships gets underway

After a three-year break, a consequence of the global COVID-19 pandemic in region that has reacted conservatively, the longstanding ASEAN Age Group Championships has now resumed. The 21st ASEAN+ Age-Group Championship is currently being held in Bangkok, Thailand, from 17th-26th June 2023, and has attracted 328 players from 15 countries. As in the previous 20 editions, direct titles are awarded in standard chess, and is also played in rapid and blitz formats.The categories are from under 8 to under 20, both boys and girls, and also has a seniors event, and this year ASEAN chess is being showcased on 23rd June as an exhibition sport. Disha Patil dominates 1st Maharashtra Chess Festival Below 1600 Rating Tournament 2023

13-year-old Disha Patil (MAH) scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 1st Maharashtra Chess Festival Below 1600 Rating Tournament 2023. She finished a half point ahead of the competition. Mani Bharathy scored sole 8/9 to secure second place. Vishwanath Kannam and Ameya Abhay Shrivastava scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed third and fourth respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹1000000. The top three prizes were ₹110000, ₹95000 and ₹85000 along with a trophy each respectively. The talented medal winners get the limelight they need -  with the adequate amount of support, these kids go on to do great things at the chess world! One such example is 2014-born Thehas Rithmitha Kiringoda, gold medalist in the Under-9 World Schools Championships 2023. Starting off as the 21st seed among 61 players, Thehas went on to score a dominating 7.5/9 and win the event! Diptayan Ghosh wins Professor Lim Kok Ann Open 2023

GM Diptayan Ghosh, GM Vladislav Artemiev and IM Medina Warda Aulia (INA) scored 7.5/9 each at Professor Lim Kok Ann International Open 2023. Diptayan won the tournament due to better tie-breaks. Artemiev and Medina were adjudged second and third. The seventh round encounter between Diptayan and Artemiev ended in a draw. They both remained undefeated. Eight players scored 7/9. Out of them, GM Srinath Narayanan and IM Ravi Teja S were the only two Indians to make a top ten finish. They were placed eighth and tenth respectively. The total prize fund of the tournament was over SGD 25000. The top three prizes were SGD 4000, 3000 and 2500 along with a trophy each respectively. This is Diptayan's third triumph of the year. Rotachess Rapid Rating Open 2023 R1-4: Haridev stuns Karthik

A total of 22 players are in the lead with a score of 4/4 at Rotachess Rapid Rating Open 2023. The six GMs who have won all four of their games are - top seed of the event, Sethuraman S P, Karthikeyan Murali, Deep Sengupta, Venkatesh M R, Bharath Subramaniyam H and Arjun Kalyan. Birthday boy Arjun won all four of his games on his 21st birthday. Haridev S scored the biggest win of the day. He defeated the reigning National Senior champion, GM Karthik Venkataraman in the third round. IM Dhulipalla Bala Chandra Prasad had an exciting, topsy-turvy game against Badri Narayan S. Both had their fair share of chances. Peter Anand A missed his big opportunity to draw against GM Karthikeyan. Total Prize fund ₹550000 is up for grabs with the first prize being ₹75000. The tournament is organized by T Nagar Chess Academy, presented by YMCA Madras in association with Rotary Club of Madras Industrial City. Round 5 starts tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. IST. Kushagra Mohan wins a double at 10th Dhamso International Chess Festival 2023

IM Kushagra Mohan scored an unbeaten 9/10 and 8.5/9 to win 10th Dhamso International Chess Festival Classical and Blitz Rating Open 2023. He finished a half point ahead of the field in both. Senevirathne S D B K (SRI), GM Azer Mirzoev (AZE) and IM Himal Gusain scored 8.5/10 each in Classical. They shared second place. In the Blitz event, Samaranayake K P R N (SRI), Piyumantha M Thisal Manjith (SRI) and IM Himal Gusain scored 8/10 each in Blitz. They all shared second place. The total cash prize fund of the tournament was LKR 1.4 Million. The top three prizes in the Classical event were LKR 150000 + trophy, 100000 and 70000 along with a medal each respectively. For Blitz, the top three prizes were LKR 40000 + trophy, 30000 and 20000 along with a medal each respectively. Kushagra's double triumph earned him a combined total of ₹50198 approx. Schedule and Scoring System for Tech Mahindra Global Chess League

Triveni Continental Kings to clash with upGrad Mumba Masters in the opening encounter of the inaugural Tech Mahindra Global Chess League. Chingari Gulf Titans vs Ganges Grandmasters will be the second match on the first day, 22nd June 2023. Global Chess League to award bonus game points for starting with Black and winning, giving players incentive to go for the less preferred choice. There are five days consisting of two matches and five days consisting of four matches. Two-match days will start at 5:30 p.m. local time and 7 p.m. IST, whereas four-match days will start at 2 p.m. local time, 3:30 p.m. IST. Check out the article to find out the entire schedule. The World no.1 Magnus Carlsen and the reigning Women's World Champion - Ju Wenjun have confirmed their participation at the upcoming FIDE World Cup and Women's World Cup 2023 respectively. The confirmed Indian players so far are - D Gukesh, R Praggnanandhaa, S L Narayanan, B Adhiban, Harsha Bharathakoti, Karthik Venkataraman, Abhimanyu Puranik, Koneru Humpy, Harika Dronavalli, Divya Deshmukh, Nandhidhaa P V, Priyanka Nutakki and Mary Ann Gomes. More Indian players names might get announced by the end of this month. Whom do you wish to see who has not qualified yet? A total of 206 players in the Open and 103 in the Women's World Cup are slated to take part. The total prize fund is US$ 1834000 in the Open and $676250 in the Women, with the first being $110000 and $50000 is up for grabs. Kartavya Anadkat scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 1st Late Dhiraj Singh Raghuvanshi Memorial Rating Open 2023. He finished a full point ahead of the competition. Five players - Ram Prakash, Arpan Das, IM Chakravarthi Reddy M, Daksh Goyal and Raj Kapoor scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed second to sixth respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹1100000. The top three prizes were ₹100000, ₹70000 and ₹50000 along with a trophy each respectively. This is Kartavya's second tournament triumph, first open rating tournament victory of the year. The last rating tournament the reigning Gujarat State Blitz champion won was in November 2022. Sailesh R (TN) scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 1st Maharashtra Chess Festival Below 2000 Rating Tournament 2023. He finished a half point ahead of the field. Four players - Sriram Adarsh Uppala (TEL), Nikhil M (AP), Umashankar A (PUD) and Arnav Mahesh Koli (MAH) scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed second to fifth respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹1000000. The top three prizes were ₹110000, ₹95000 and ₹85000 along with a trophy each respectively. This is Sailesh's fifth tournament triumph of the year, first open rating tournament victory of his career. The only other rating tournament he won was a Below 1600 event on 1st January 2020. Vedant Nagarkatte scored sole 7.5/9 to secure second place. Three players - Mohit Kumar Soni, Y Dhanabir Singh and Soram Rahul Singh scored 7/9. Tech Mahindra Global Chess League teams and squads unveiled

Tech Mahindra Global Chess League starts in seven days from today. It will be a six-team double round-robin event. Six members will play in each team comprising an icon, two male, two female and one prodigy in each round. Vishy Anand, Magnus Carlsen, Ding Liren, Jan-Krzysztof Duda, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave and Ian Nepomniachtchi are the 'Icons' who will take part in this event. There will be 26 'Superstars' and six 'Prodigies' who will also be part of the inaugural edition. The six franchise teams are - Balan Alaskan Knights, Chingari Gulf Titans, Ganges Grandmasters, SG Alpine Warriors, Triveni Continental Kings and Upgrad Mumba Masters. Draw of Lots is on 21st June and first match will take place on Thursday 22nd June 2023. Which team do you think will win? The ASEAN+ Age Group is back after 3 years

The ASEAN Age Group Championships is an extremely important event for young kids living in the ASEAN countries. They include Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar. Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and Timur Leste. However, if you look at the name carefully, it says ASEAN+ and the + indicates that more countries are welcome at the championships that will be held in 14 age groups from the 17th to the 27th of June 2023, in Bangkok, Thailand - China, India, Japan, New Zealand, and South Korea. Along with this tournament there is also an ACC-ECU symposium which will witness the presence of Artur Yusupov, Zurab Azmaiparashvili and many other famous names.

A visit to God's Own Country

Earlier this year from the 30th of March to 4th of April 2023, the Capablanca Chess Festival was held in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. While we covered the event extensively and had several videos posted on our YouTube channel and Facebook page, there was something that Aditya Sur Roy wanted to share. It was his experience of visiting the God's own country and the various experiences he had while covering the event.
