HelpChess Foundation raises Rs.54 lakh in 2023-24 for Indian chess

In 2018, we began the activities of ChessBase India Foundation with our first scholarship of Rs.50,000. Since then the Foundation has grown massively. We now call it the HelpChess Foundation for the last 3 years. It is a Charitable Trust (12A registered), it has a CSR number and it also provides the contributors with tax benefits (80G). In the year 2023-24 (1st of April 2023 to 31st of March 2024) HelpChess has raised Rs.54 lakh for Indian chess. More than 900 people have contributed to this. Each and every penny of this fund received will be utilized to power Indian chess. In the article below we give you all the details of how this fund was raised and who are the players we are supporting. More than 30 players have received support from the amount that was raised.

FIDE World Cup Cadets 2024: Pratitee Bordoloi secures Silver, Bronze for Sattwik Swain

The reigning National Under-11 Girls 2023, National Schools U-11 Girls 2024 and Commonwealth Under-12 Girls 2023-24 Champion, Pratitee Bordoloi won Silver in Unde-12 Girls at the inaugural FIDE World Cup for Cadets. Just days before this event, she won an individual Gold and Silver at the 26th Asian Youth Under-12 Girls Rapid and Classical. Odisha State Under-7 Open 2023, Sattwik Swain defeated Azad Khuduzade (AZE) 1.5-0.5 to secure a Bronze medal in Under-8 Open category. He remained undefeated throughout the tournament. In the group stage, he scored an unbeaten 6.5/7 in Group A. The top three prizes in each group were - Macbook Air 2022, iPhone 15 and iPad along with cup, medal and diploma each respectively. Saikat Nath wins 3rd Summer Cup Below 1800 Rating Tournament 2024

Saikat Nath scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 3rd Summer Cup Classical Below 1800 Rating Tournament 2024. The tournament was organized in memory of Late Shri Ramesh Chandra Sharma and Dr. Prashant Bharadwaj. Adalja Vanssh A, Vibhor Ranjan and Arnav Gupta also scored 8/9 each. They secured second to fourth place respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹1500000. The top three prizes were ₹111000, ₹71000 and ₹41000 along with a trophy each respectively. There were three prizes worth ₹100000 and above. The tournament was organized by Chess in Lakecity from 15th to 17th June 2024 at Orbit Resort in Udaipur, Rajasthan. This was Saikat's first rating tournament triumph of the year. Superbet Classic 2024 R6: Firouzja outplays So, catches up with Praggnanandhaa and Gukesh

Alireza Firouzja (FRA) scored the sole victory of Round 6 at Grand Chess Tour Superbet Classic 2024. Wesley So (USA) opted for a sharp line in the Nimzo-Indian. Things backfired and the former World Fischer Random champion could not get out of the gate. Fabiano Caruana (USA) made a quick 19-move draw against Ian Nepomniachtchi to maintain his sole lead 4/6. D Gukesh opted for the Marshall Attack in Ruy Lopez against Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (FRA). He managed to defend an unpleasant position for a very long time. R Praggnanandhaa could not break through Bogdan-Daniel Deac's (ROU) resistance. Firouzja joined Praggnanandhaa and Gukesh in pursuit at 3.5/6 each. In Round 7, it will be Gukesh vs Caruana and Nepomniachtchi vs Praggnanandhaa. Himal Gusain perfect at 4th Weekend Matti per gli scacchi 2024

IM Himal Gusain scored a perfect 5/5 to win 4th Weekend Matti per gli scacchi Open 2024. The top seed of the tournament finished a full point ahead of the competition. Three players - CM Federico Giammona (ITA), CM Giuseppe Ottavio Messina (ITA) and Federico Noto (ITA) scored 4/5 to secure second, third and fourth place according to tie-breaks. Himal defeated both eventual runners-up. The top three prizes were €100, €75 and €60 along with a trophy each. The three-day five round Rating Open tournament was organized by A S D Matti Per Gli  Scacchi at Matti Per Gli Scacchi in Palermo, Italy from 7th to 9th June 2024. Singapore to host FIDE World Championship 2024 Match

The Singapore Chess Federation, supported by the Government of Singapore, has won the bid to host the FIDE World Championship Match 2024. The Match will feature the defending Champion Ding Liren from China and the Challenger D Gukesh from India and will take place between November 20 and December 15, 2024. Check out the press release by FIDE. The exact venue, match schedule, rules and regulation will be notified later. Total prize fund of the match is US$ 2.5 Million. Three Indians in World Top ten for the first time ever

For the first time in the history of Indian chess, three Indians are in World Top ten, in FIDE Rating list July 2024. Arjun Erigaisi is World no.4, D Gukesh World no.7 and R Praggnanandhaa World no.8. Aravindh Chithambaram continues his rise to the top as he gained 18.5 Elo rating points to become India no.6 and World no.29. Praggnanandhaa increased his rating by 10 points to enter into World top ten for the first time. Currently, there are four Indians in top 11, five in top 22, six in top 29, seven in top 37 and eight in top 46. Both Arjun and Aravindh are two of the biggest gainers of this list in the Open at the top. Among the Women, there are three Indians in top 14 and four in top 20. GM Harika Dronavalli reclaimed her India no. 2 spot. IM Divya Deshmukh moved to World no.20 among Women after winning FIDE World Junior Girls 2024 in a dominating fashion. Vishy Anand wins Leon Masters for the tenth time in his career

Vishy Anand defeated Jaime Santos Latasa (ESP) 3-1 in the Final of 37th Torneo Magistral de Ajedrez Ciudad de Leon. Jaime defeated Arjun Erigaisi 2.5-1.5 in the second Semifinal to earn his place in the Finals. The first two games ended in draws. The maestro struck in the third and fourth game to win this iconic tournament for the tenth time in his career. His previous triumphs were in: 1996, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2011 and 2016. We might have missed a dream final between Anand and Arjun. That might still happen at some point. The fifth round Grand Chess Tour Superbet Classic 2024 witnessed five draws. However, R Praggnanandhaa had the best chance to score his second win of the event. It would have also been his first Classical win over Wesley So (USA). The teenager could not spot his opportunity in the endgame and it ended in a draw. D Gukesh had a well contested draw against Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB). Bogdan-Daniel Deac (ROU) had to defend rook vs rook and knight endgame for 47 moves before Ian Nepomniachtchi accepted a draw. Tenth seeded Umashankar A scored an unbeaten 7.5/8 to win 8th Visalakshi - Arunachalam 8th SCS Rating Open 2024. He finished a half point ahead of the competition. FM Prasannaa S made a blazing start 7/7. In the final round, Umashankar defeated him to become a clear champion. Four players - Prasannaa, IM Nitin S, Selvamurugan B and Vijay Shreeram P scored 7/8 each. They were placed second to fifth according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹450000. The top three prizes were ₹70000, ₹50000 and ₹35000 along with a trophy each. R Praggnanandhaa scored his first win at Grand Chess Tour Superbet Classic 2024 against Anish Giri (NED) in Round 4. On his 30th birthday, Giri jested about facing the teenager with the black pieces. It was evident in his game that there was some truth in his humor. He made some uncharacteristic move and spent the better part of his game in defending. The eventuality of that game was Praggnanandhaa's win which is what happened. D Gukesh had a relatively peaceful draw against Alireza Firouzja (FRA). Fabiano Caruana (USA) scored his first-ever Classical victory against Bogdan-Daniel Deac (ROU) to gain sole lead 3/4. Afreed T Khan, Gyana Sai Santhosh M, Kushal O, Bharat Kumar Reddy Poluri, Alluri Bhaskara Ratna Shanmukha Reddy and Rohan Kumar Gourabathuni scored 8/10 each at Bhimavaram Rating Open 2024. Afreed won the tournament due to better tie-break score. The remaining five were placed second to sixth respectively. The total prize fund was ₹500000. The top three prizes were ₹60000, ₹50000 and ₹30000 along with a trophy each respectively. The six-day ten-round rating tournament was organized by Anasuya Chess Academy, Bhimavaram in association with Cosmopolitan Club, Bhimavaram and West Godavari District Chess Association at Cosmopolitan Club in Bhimavaram, Andhra Pradesh from 4th to 9th June 2024. This is Afreed's first rating and second overall tournament triumph of the year. 37th Magistral Ciudad de Leon: Vishy Anand beats Veselin Topalov, advances to the Final

Vishy Anand defeated Veselin Topalov (BUL) 2.5-1.5 in the first Semifinal of 37th Torneo Magistral de Ajedrez Ciudad de Leon. First game could have gone either player's way. Topalov had a good chance in the endgame of the second game. Anand struck in the third game when his opponent did not anticipate the kingside onslaught correct. The five-time Classical world champion could have finished things much earlier. Anand drew the fourth game in an advantageous position as it was enough for him to advance to the Final. The second Semifinal between Jamie Santos Latasa (ESP) and Arjun Erigaisi starts today at 4:30 p.m. local time, 8 p.m. IST.
