FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Championships 2023 to take place in Samarkand, Uzbekistan

FIDE World Rapid and Blitz championship 2023 will take place from 26th to 30th December in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. More details is slated to be revealed by 15th November. One can expect the eligibility criteria, tournament regulations and total prize fund will be mentioned there. GM Magnus Carlsen (NOR), GM Zhongyi Tan (CHN) and IM Bibisara Assaubayeva (KAZ) are the defending champions. They would definitely like to defend their titles. Among the Indians, one can expect Gukesh, Praggnanandhaa, Vidit, Arjun Erigaisi, Harikrishna, Nihal, S L Narayanan, Raunak, Aravindh, Humpy, Harika, Vaishali, Vantika, Divya, Tania, Savitha and others in action. Rahul Gurung wins 21st Northeast Rating Championship 2023

Rahul Gurung, Soram Rahul Singh and Mrinmoy Rajkhowa scored 8/9 each at 21st Northeast Rating Chess Championship 2023. Rahul won the tournament due to better tie-breaks. Soram and Mrinmoy secured second and third place respectively. All three of them remained undefeated. Only Mrinmoy was the closest to beat the eventual champion, Rahul in the penultimate eighth round. However, he decided to repeat moves and make a draw in a completely winning rook endgame. The total prize fund was ₹500000. The top three prizes were ₹100000, ₹70000 and ₹50000 along with a trophy and certificate each. Meghalaya Chess Association invites you to 1st Meghalaya International GM Open 2023. The inaugural edition is offering a first prize of ₹301000 and a total cash prize fund of ₹3001000. A total of 82 prizes including 40 main prizes are up for grabs in Category A. Entry is FREE for GMs, IMs, WGMs and WIMs. Only rated players are eligible to play in Category A. The Category B has the total prize fund of ₹1001000 with the first prize being ₹100000. It is for players rated 1599 and below. Arjun Adireddy dominates 3rd Tamil Nadu IM-norm Closed 2023 with a 2709 performance, Harsh second

CM Arjun Adireddy scored a mammoth 8.5/9 to win 3rd Tamil Nadu IM-norm Closed Circuit Chess Tournament 2023. He remained undefeated, performed at 2709, increased his Elo rating by 212.4 points and finished a full point ahead of the competition. FM Harsh Suresh scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 to finish second. Both Arjun and Harsh scored an IM-norm each. Arjun fulfilled his norm criteria in eight games. This is Harsh's second IM-norm. He finished two points ahead of the second runner-up. 36th National Under 9 Open and Girls Round 8-9: Advik and Samhita take sole lead

Going into the penultimate 10th round of the National Under-9 Championships, the leader situation is clarified both in the Open and Girls section. In the open section, Advik Amit Agrawal (1378, MAH) was held to his first draw of the tournament by Rahul Ramakrishnan (1531, PUD). Nevertheless, he has a full-point lead over the field with 8.5/9 points. In the Girls category, Samhita Pungavanam (1345, TEL) took back the sole lead with a powerful win over Dishita Dey (1263, JHA). Paarth P Salvi dominates Late Lt. Cdr. Gopal Sakharam Sukthankar Memorial Rapid Rating Open 2023

Third seeded Paarth P Salvi scored 8.5/9 to win Late Lt. Cdr. Gopal Sakharam Sukthankar Memorial Rapid Rating Open 2023. He finished a half point ahead of the competition. Mandar Pradip Lad scored sole 8/9. His only loss was against the eventual champion Paarth in the seventh round. Four players - Aayush Shirodkar, Aryan Shamrao Raikar, Chaintany V Gaonkar and Mayuresh Laxlabh Desai scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed third to sixth each. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹60000. The top three prizes were ₹12000, ₹9000 and ₹6000 along with a trophy each. Entry fee was only ₹300 to encourage maximum participation. Victory for Valiant Vidit Gujrathi and R Vaishali at FIDE Grand Swiss 2023, Qualify to the Candidates 2024

GM Vidit Gujrathi scored an emphatic victory against GM Alexandr Predke (SRB) to win FIDE Grand Swiss 2023. He became a clear champion scoring 8.5/11. Apart from staging an epic comeback after losing the first round, his countrymate GM Arjun Erigaisi's draw against GM Hikaru Nakamura (USA) and his good friend GM Anish Giri's (NED) win over GM Andrey Esipenko played a key role in Vidit winning the tournament. IM Vaishali R drew her final round game against IM Batkhuyag Munguntuul to become FIDE Grand Swiss 2023 winner. GM Pia Cramling (SWE) holding GM Anna Muzychuk (UKR) to a draw ensured Vaishali becomes the champion without the necessity of tie-breaks. Vidit, Nakamura and Vaishali have secured their place in the Candidates via this event. Nikita Petrov wins 1st Annemasse International Festival 2023, Sayantan second and Sahaj third

GM Nikita Petrov (MNE) and GM Sayantan Das scored an unbeaten 7/9 each at 1st Annemasse International Chess Festival 2023. Nikita won the tournament due to better tie-breaks, Sayantan secured second place. Their seventh round game against each other ended in a draw. Nine players scored 6.5/9. Out of them, five are Indians. GM Sahaj Grover, GM Deep Sengupta, GM Sankalp Gupta, GM Diptayan Ghosh and IM Mehar Chinna Reddy C H were placed third, fourth, fifth, sixth and eleventh respectively. The 4th and 5th round of National Under-9 Chess Championships saw more rating upsets, and the lead getting thinner at the top. After 5 rounds of play, there are 2 players each in the Open and Girls section with a perfect score of 5/5 points. Samhita Pungavanam (1345, TEL) and Pooja Shree R (1249, TN) lead the girls section, while Advik Amit Agrawal (1368, MAH) and Venkata Naga Karthik Malladi (1317, KAR) have the lead in the open category. The biggest result of the day was the top seed in the Girls section, Sharvaanica AS (1430, TN) going down against Bhavanya Panchumarthi (1192, AP). IM Vaishali R is in the form of her career. She defeated her fifth former Women's World Champion, GM Zhongyi Tan (CHN) in the penultimate round of FIDE Grand Swiss 2023 Women. Thus, she earned herself a spot in the FIDE Women's Candidates 2024. She is also maintaining her sole lead 8/10. GM Anna Muzychuk (UKR) is the sole woman trailing her by a half point at 7.5/10. In the Open event, GM Hikaru Nakamura won the All-American clash against GM Fabiano Caruana. GM Vidit Gujrathi scored a fantastic victory against the Romania no.2 GM Bogdan Daniel-Deac. GM Arjun Erigaisi also scored an amazing win against GM Samuel Sevian (USA). GM Andrey Esipenko, Nakamura and Vidit are currently in a three-way lead 7.5/10. IM Himal Gusain scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 1st Saint-Macaire Autumn Open 2023. He finished a half point ahead of the field. IM Floryan Eugene (FRA) scored sole 8/9 to secure second place. IM Radoslaw Barski (POL) scored 7/9 to be placed third. Himal's sole draw of the event was against the eventual runner-up, Floryan in the sixth round. He defeated the second runner-up, Barski in the fifth round. The total prize fund of the tournament was €5000. The first prize was €1000 and a trophy. Grand Swiss 2023 R9: Vaishali beats Stefanova, emerges sole leader

IM Vaishali R defeated GM Antoaneta Stefanova (BUL) in the ninth round of FIDE Grand Swiss 2023 Women. The former Women's world champion made an incorrect exchange of pieces in the endgame which eased Vaishali's path towards victory. Her coleader GM Anna Muzychuk (UKR) was held to a draw by IM Leya Garifullina, allowing Vaishali to become the sole leader 7/9. She will face another former Women's world champion, GM Zhongyi Tan (CHN) in the penultimate round. GM Vidit Gujrathi had a well contested draw against GM Andrey Esipenko. The leader group in the Open section increased to six players as GM Hikaru Nakamura (USA) and GM Parham Maghsoodloo (IRI) joined Esipenko, Vidit, GM Fabiano Caruana (USA) and GM Bogdan-Daniel Deac (ROU). The 2nd and 3rd round of the National Under-9 Championships saw a lot of upsets. In the Girls section, the top seed Sharvaanica AS (1430, TN) managed to win all 3 of her games comfortably so far - now having 3/3 with 11 other players. However, the top seed of the Open section, Safin Safarullakhan (1716, KER) was taken down by Chirag Lahoti (1247, MAH) with the White pieces, undoubtedly the biggest result of the round.
