Will Fabiano Caruana win Superbet Classic for the second consecutive year?

by Shahid Ahmed - 05/07/2024

Fabiano Caruana (USA) drew with R Praggnanandhaa to maintain his sole lead at Grand Chess Tour Superbet Classic 2024. The World no.3 now has a chance to win this tournament for the second year in-a-row. He will face Anish Giri (NED) in the final round. D Gukesh shared the point with Giri in the penultimate round. The World Championship Challenger came up with a great preparation. However, it was not enough to subdue the Netherlands no.1. The longest game of the round lasted for 84 moves between Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) and Bogdan-Daniel Deac (ROU). It will be Wesley So (USA) vs Gukesh and Praggnanandhaa vs Alireza Firouzja (FRA) in the final round. Round 9 starts today at 2 p.m. local time, 4:30 p.m. IST.
