Silver Lake Open R6: Nihal beats Petrosyan to take sole lead 5.5/6

Nihal Sarin is very determined to hit top gear before he begins his FIDE World Cup 2021 campaign next month. He showcased his endgame prowess against Manuel Petrosyan in Round 6 of Silver Lake Open to take the sole lead 5.5/6. He will face IM Denis Makhnev in the next round. Both Raunak and Abhimanyu drew their respective games. Raunak along with three other players are in the title fray at 5.0/6 each. Harshit, Rakshitta and Isha won their respective games. Raunak stays in the hunt

Nihal converted his minute advantage into a substantial one to beat one of Levon Aronian's second, Manuel Petrosyan. Raahil lost to Samvel Ter-Sahakyan who will face Raunak in the next round. Both Raunak and Abhimanyu Puranik drew their respective games.

Raahil played inaccurately after his opponent GM Samvel Ter-Sahakyan sacrificed a knight.

Black needed to complete the development of the pieces. 22...Bb7 with the idea of 0-0-0 would have been better than the text. White recovered the piece eventually and the game was decided when Black missed a tactic and blundered a rook.
