8th Sharjah Masters B R6: Mayank Chakraborty emerges sole leader

GM Aleksandar Indjic (SRB) and GM Anish Giri (NED) won their respective games in Round 6 of 8th Sharjah Masters 2025. Indjic got the better of GM Changren Dai (CHN) in the endgame. GM Parham Maghsoodloo (IRI) made an unforced error against Giri. The reigning National Rapid champion, GM Iniyan Pa fought well against World Rapid 2021 champion, GM Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB). However, he made a mistake in a complex endgame and could not stop his opponent's connected passed pawns. GM Visakh N R and GM Aditya Mittal drew with the newly crowned Asian Individual 2025 champion, GM Bardiya Daneshvar (IRI) and GM Nikolas Theodorou (GRE) respectively. Group A: Giri and Indjic are coleaders again
Both IM Mayank Chakraborty and Shubham Shukla have great chances to win Group B and C respectively. In Group A, GM Anish Giri (NED) will face quite possibly the toughest challenge so far in the form of 44th Olympiad Gold medalist, GM Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) in Round 7. They had nine draws in Classical rated games and the sole win was scored by Abdusattorov.

Indjic - Changren
Position after 44.Kxf7
To ensure the game ended in a draw, GM Changren Dai (CHN, 2531) had to play either 44...Kd7 or Kd6, even a6/a5 would have been fine too. However, 44...g2?? spelled doom for Black. GM Aleksandar Indjic (SRB, 2637) played the correct continuation 45.f6!+- Rf2 46.Ke7 Rxa2 47.f7 Re2+ 48.Kf6 and White went on to win the game.

Parham - Giri
Position after 22...Nc5
GM Parham Maghsoodloo (IRI, 2706) made an unforced error when he sacrificed an exchange unnecessarily 23.Rxc5? bxc5 24.a6 Ba8 27.Nc4 the a-pawn is not going to promote. It renders the sacrifice meaningless. Soon White lost the pawn and the game too against GM Anish Giri (NED, 2738).

Abdusattorov - Iniyan

GM Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB, 2771) offered his knight as a sacrifice because he wanted strong connected passed pawns on the kingside, hence 33.f5 GM Iniyan Pa (2573) decided to take the knight 33...Rxd3 34.fxg6 Rxe3 35.exf6 Rd7 36.gxf7 Rxf7 37.Bg6 Rf8 38.Bxh5

Black needed to fast track bringing his knights starting with 38...Nac7. The game continued 38...Re6 39.f7 Nc3? 40.Rbf1+- Black played the moves which White wanted to play himself anyway, so Re6, Nc3 did not gain any tempo, it helped White. The World Rapid 2021 champion won the game in five more moves.
GM Iniyan Pa played well, only in the end he faltered
