Vishy Anand is fighting it out in Moscow at the Candidates 2016. Two rounds remain and he is currently in the third position half point behind Karjakin and Caruana. Nakamura outprepares Anand!

Anand was completely outprepared in the sharp line of the English Opening by Hikaru Nakamura. He got a poor position out of the opening and the American played some accurate moves to take home the full point in just 26 moves. Words cannot have the same effect as variations, so here are some detailed analysis by IM Sagar Shah from the Central Telegraph building in Moscow.

“Happy Holi, Vishy! Can I put some colour on you?” these were the words with which a little girl approached Anand as he was about to leave the tournament hall at the end of a long day. “Happy Holi to you too, but no colour!” replied Vishy with a smile. After five and half hours of grinding on the chess board and then giving interviews, posing for pictures, signing autographs, and being extremely hungry, the last thing that Vishy wanted to do was to take a shower! It is truly ironic that even though Anand didn’t want to indulge in festivities of Holi, he had filled the life of every chess lover in the country with colour and glow. The All India Public Sector Chess Tournament 2016 was held from 14-18 March 2016, hosted by Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. at Mysuru. Almost all of India's top players are employed by the Petroleum companies and they were present to represent their teams in this six-team round-robin contest. IM N. Caruana plays a brilliant game to beat Anand

There are days when things go completely wrong, and for Vishy Anand 23rd of March was one such day. Caruana guessed correctly the opening that he would play, had a very interesting novelty prepared and followed it up with some excellent moves. Almost until the last move was made, Fabiano played with utmost accuracy. Anand's stoic face at the press conference said the story. He was beaten even without having a chance to fight. Robert Frost once famously said that if he had learnt anything about life, it is that it goes on. People around the world die in a number beyond our imagination but people are born in even greater numbers -- the cycle will continue without waiting for you and me. But often, when you really want to help somebody, save a life, it is more a question of the will to help by joining hands than anything else. Mangesh Parab, a chess playing friend like we are, was diagnosed with cancer in 2004, and three operations later, he is free of his brain tumour, but with one last detail to attend to -- chemotherapy for a year. A physical battle with the emperor of maladies has failed to break the man, although he lies on the battlefield awaiting his comrades' help. He is fast running out of resources, and now the only way he can continue a year's treatment is with our help. An appeal from a fellow chess lover.

Anand beats Aronian with virtuoso endgame technique!

Vishy Anand played a fine game to get the better of Armenian number one Levon Aronian. The Berlin had been posing certain problems to Anand in this tournament, so he switched to the Guico Piano with the aim of getting a fresh non theoretical position. As it turned out White got a small edge out of the opening which increased due to a few careless moves by Aronian. Vishy's endgame play was a piece of art, mixing objectively strong moves with subtle psychology. The result was a near to flawless Capablanca/Smyslov like endgame victory. Vishy solid as ever, holds Topalov to an easy draw

Topalov didn't expect that Vishy would play the same opening system with Nbd7 and Bb4 again, after the Indian ace had played it against Anish. But Anand showed that he had faith on this system and the work he had done on it. The result was a completely fine game for Vishy right out of the opening. He even started getting ambitious and pressed the Bulgarian for a while in the endgame, but the advantage was just too minute. In a completely unexplored line, Anand with his team of seconds and powerful engines dug deep. They found new ideas which were impossible for Anish to deal on the board. Aeroflot 09: solid finish for Indians (2)

The 13th edition of the Aeroflot Open 2016 is being held in Moscow, Russia from the 29th of February to 10th of March 2016. The tournament ended in a close finish at the top with both Boris Gelfand and Evgeny Najer scoring 6.5/9, with the latter taking first place on tiebreak. After Vishy lost his fourth round game against Karjakin, it seemed as if this tournament was not going to be nothing special. But his detractors just don't learn from their past experience! It's true and he proved it once again - It's impossible to write Vishy off! In the sixth round of the Candidates 2016, Anand played a sublime attacking game to dispatch Peter Svidler in just 24 moves. What makes this even more amazing is the fact that Peter was so well prepared in this tournament and in some of the games he played theory until the 24th move mark!
