Norway R09: Levon Aronian wins the tournament; Anand finishes with 4.0/9

The strongest tournament of the year 2017, Norway Chess came to an end. Levon Aronian displayed some fantastic chess to not only win the tournament, but also gain 16 Elo points and propel himself to world number four. Anand had to be content with the eighth spot with 4.0/9. Perhaps, this was one of the worst tournament for World Champion Magnus Carlsen who finished ninth. Opening Ceremony of the World Teams 2017

16th of June was the opening ceremony of the World Team Championship 2017 in Khanty Mansiysk. The games begin on 17th of June at 15.00 hours local time (15.30 hours IST). India faces Poland in the open section and Georgia in the women's section. ChessBase India will be closely covering the event round by round. The penultimate round of the Altibox Norway saw some exciting action. Vishy Anand managed to hold the leader Levon Aronian to a draw. It was a very interesting three fold repetition. Carlsen got the better of Sergey Karjakin and cemented his World number one spot. Kramnik lost his game to Maxime Vachier Lagrave. The team has already reached Russia. They went live on Facebook at 9.30 p.m. IST through Tania Sachdev's official page. Magnus Carlsen is just one game away from losing his world number one spot. Just six Elo points separate him and Vladimir Kramnik after the latter defeated the World Champion in the seventh round of the Norway Chess 2017. Vishy Anand drew his game against Nakamura. Levon Aronian continues his fairy tale run and is now the sole leader with 5.0/7. Two rounds to go and there is everything to play for. An International rating tournament with the first prize of Rs.61,000 will be held in Nashik from the 18th to the 23rd of July 2017. Apart from the playing venue being world class, and excellent lodging facilities, the event is famous for one more reason - No spot entries and punctuality. The World Teams 2017 takes place from the 16th to the 27th of June 2017 in Khanty Mansisyk, Russia. Top ten chess nations will fight it out for the title of the World Teams Champion. India has teams participating in both Open and Women's section. Vidit Gujrathi, Sasikiran, Adhiban, Parimarjan Negi and Karthikeyan Murali are the Indian players in Open section. Norway R06: Anand positionally outplays Fabiano Caruana

Just past the halfway mark, things at the Altibox Norway Chess have begun to heat up. In round six two of chess world’s crème-de-la-crème succeeded in breaking through their opponent’s defenses, securing victory. While Viswanathan Anand proved his mettle yet again by convincingly defeating Fabiano Caruana, Levon Aronian continued his good form to beat the apparently out-of-shape Vladimir Kramnik. Levon is now the leader along with Hikaru Nakamura. Hoa Nguyen wins the 10th Mayor's Cup 2017

After 20 rounds of nerve wracking chess the Vietnamese GM went back home with two back to back titles on Indian soil - the 10th KIIT Open in Bhubaneshwar and the 10th Mayor's Cup in Mumbai. It was fine performance by Hoa Nguyen as he beat Neelotpal Das in the last round to clinch the top spot. Farrukh Amonatov finished second and Diptayan Ghosh third. Norway R05: Five draws; Anand splits point against So

After some sensational games in round 4, players at the Altibox Norway Chess 2017 seemed to have wanted to take things slower. All five games of the fifth round were drawn. While Kramnik and Karjakin fought hard to force a win against Nakamura and Caruana respectively, Levon Aronian unleashed the razor sharp Marshall Gambit against Maxime Vachier-Lagrave. On the other hand, both Vishy Anand and Magnus Carlsen chose to start-off with the Italian opening against Wesley So and Anish Giri. We have analysis, pictures, videos and much more.
