Priyanka wins the biggest Smart Girl All India open

Thirteenth seeded Priyanka Bhatt of Uttar Pradesh scored 7.0/9 and won the biggest Smart Girl All India open at Ernakulam, Kerala. Three other players also finished at the same score, due to a better tie-break score, Priyanka clinched the championship. Kerala's budding talent, multiple State champion and former Commonwealth under-10 Gold medalist, Anupam M Sreekumar scored an unbeaten 7.0/9 and she secured the runner-up position. Total ₹110000 prize fund was distributed among the prize winners, making it the biggest Smart All India open organized till date. World Juniors Rd.10: Who will win the World Juniors 2019?

The sole leaders in both open and girls section Shtembuliak and Shuvalova maintained their lead. While Shtembuliak has half a point lead, Shuvalova is very close to the title with a full one point gap over rest of the players. Round 10 was an exciting one as we saw plenty of high voltage action. Wang Shixu and Volodar Murzin achieved their maiden GM norms. We also bring to you a beautiful game played by 13-year-old Leon Mendonca - symphony on the chess board. Who are the ones with a chance of winning a medal at the World Juniors? We analyze the chances of the players and present them in this article. 

Remembering György Bakcsi and his helpmates

The great Hungarian composer and Grandmaster György Bakcsi passed away on the 11th of this month at the age of 86. Bakcsi was a true creative giant who felt equally at home in many different genres of problem chess. Indeed, he also held the title of International judge for fields as varied as directmates, selfmates, helpmates, and even fairy problems! His multifaceted proficiency together with his disposition for sharp and paradoxical ideas made him one of the most loved composers of twentieth century. In this article we pay the deceased master our heartfelt tribute and discuss a few of his ever entertaining creations which will continue to be cherished for years to come.

Thailand Pattaya Open 2019 begins

The second edition of Thailand Pattaya Open 2019 was pawned off on 23rd October 2019. Four players - IM Haridas Pascua, GM Villamayor Buenaventura, IM Daniel Quizon and FM Naung Thet are in the lead at the conclusion of round 3. Top seed GM Saptarshi Roy was held to a draw by FM Thanadon Kulpruethanon in round 3. Total 261 players are taking part from 31 different countries in six different sections in this massive festival at Pattaya from 19th - 30th October 2019 at Bay Beach Resort. World Juniors Rd.09: Can anyone stop Shtembuliak and Shuvalova?

He read the Zurich Interzonal 1953 book written by Bronstein and Gelfand's positional decision making to improve his positional understanding. He goes to the gym and swimming everyday to keep himself physically fit. He is the sole leader in the open section with a score of 7.5/9 and has a performance rating of 2783! He is Evgeny Shtembuliak. She won the under-18 world championship 2019, she played her 20th consecutive game. She ensures that she goes to the gym every day morning, and she enjoys each and every moment she spends on the chess board. She has an Elo performance of 2585 and is leading the girls section at the World Juniors with 8.0/9. That's Polina Shuvalova for you! These two youngsters are unstoppable at the World Juniors 2019.

Marius triumphs in Targu Mures Open

GM Marius Manolache of Romania scored 6.0/7 along with GM Jianu Vlad-Cristian and IM Anton Teodor. All three of them remained unbeaten. However due to a better tie-break score, Marius clinched the championship, Jianu and Anton had to settle for second and third position respectively. Champion Marius received 3300 Romanian Lei, a shining new trophy and a certificate. The average rating of the Indonesian team is 2373.6, which means that its a very strong contingent. Six out of the ten Indian players have already confirmed their participation. This is a training match in rapid and blitz and is not FIDE rated. World Juniors Rd.08: YASQS - Yet Another Shuvalova Queen Sacrifice!

Polina Shuvalova is on fire at the World Juniors 2019. After her pretty queen sacrifice at the World Youth 2019 that went pretty viral, the Russian youngster yet again sacrificed her queen, this time at the World Juniors. It has to be admitted the queen sacrifice wasn't as deep or beautiful as what we saw in Mumbai in her game against Afonasieva. Yet, to beat a player like Assaubayeva with a queen sacrifice is never easy! In the open section we have two leaders - Shtembuliak drew his game against Shant Sargsyan. This let Miguel Santos Ruiz to catch up. The Spaniard beat Praggnanandhaa in pretty fashion to join Shtembuliak at the top. Grand Swiss final: Wang Hao is the all taking winner

The FIDE Chess.com Grand Swiss Isle of Man came to conclusion on the 21st of October and ended in a tie between Wang Hao of China and Fabiano Caruana of the USA. Both of them finished with 8.0/11 points, however it was the chinese no.3 who came out on the top in tie-breaks. Therefore, with his final round victory against David Howell, Wang Hao not only clinched the coveted spot in Candidates 2020 for himself but also became the champion of the event. It was heartbreaking to see Vishy Anand's Candidates hopes come to an abrupt end but among the other Indians, several finished on a high note. In this round-up article we bring you the highlights of the last day's happenings and an overview of all notable Indian performances.

Deepan domination at First Kashvi Chess School Open

GM Deepan Chakkravarthy of Integral Coach Factory scored an unbeaten 8.0/9 to win First Kashvi Chess School Open. He finished a half point ahead of the runner-up. Senthil Maran and Lokesh of Tamil Nadu, both scored 7.5/9. They were placed second and third according to their tie-break score. The Below 1600 tournament was won by Saikanth Nagasri of Andhra Pradesh. He scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to become champion. Both winners of the tournament received ₹100000 and a huge new trophy each. World Juniors Rd.07: Unstoppable Shtembuliak

In 2018 we had Parham Maghsoodloo who made a dash towards the finish line at the World Junior Championships. He won the event with one round to spare. In 2019 it seems like Evgeny Shtembuliak is going to take the honours. Although there are still four rounds left to be played, the Ukrainian GM has beaten some of the strongest opposition in the tournament. In round seven he got the better of GM Aram Hakobyan in the tense encounter. Shtembuliak leads with 6.0/7. He is followed on 5.5/7 by Miguel Santos Ruiz alone. In the girls section Mobina Alinasab remained in the lead after her draw against Stavroula Tsolakidou, but she was joined at the top by Polina Shuvalova as well. After almost a three-year-long hiatus, Roto Lawyer's Cup is back with its fourth edition and this time it is called SDM Roto Lawyer's Cup. Total ₹400000 prize fund is up for grabs. GM Vishnu Prasanna and Karnataka's latest GM Girish A Koushik along with three IMs and two WIMs have confirmed their participation. Defending champion Girish will be back to defend his title which he won in the last edition in 2016. Sebastian superb at XVI Calvia Amateur Open

Fourth seeded FM Sebastian Massanet of Spain scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 and finished a half point ahead of the runner-up to win XVI Calvia Amateur Open. Top seed of the tournament Hendrik Reichmann and Henk-Jan Visser, both scored 7.0/9. They were placed second and third respectively. Total 137 players participated from 20 different countries including Spain. The only participant from India was Krithigga K, she gained a massive 143 Elo rating points. Grand Swiss R10: Who will qualify for the Candidates 2020?

The winner of the FIDE Chess.com Grand Swiss Isle of Man will be decided in the eleventh and final round of the event which starts at 6 pm IST today. It is Fabiano Caruana who is in the sole lead with 7.5/10 points at the moment and he has been paired up against Hikaru Nakamura in the last round. There are seven players led by Wang Hao of China who follow the leader just half a point behind with 7.0/10 each. The question is not only who will be the champion of the tournament and take back home the first prize of 70,000 US Dollars but also who will secure that coveted spot in the Candidates 2020 which is scheduled to take place in the first half of next year. In this illustrated report we bring you the happenings from the previous round and also give you the pairings for the final day of the event.
