Biel GMT Round 2: Adams scores the sole victory

Michael Adams scores the sole victory in Round 2 against Vincent Keymer. Adams punished Keymer for his positional mistake and later converted the game from a winning Queen ending with a beautiful technique to move to the third position with 13.5 points. Despite suffering a loss Keymer isn't far behind as he is at the second position with 14 points. Wojtaszek jumped into the lead with 15 points after making a draw with Anton Guijarro. Harikrishna is now at the fourth position with 13 points. He made a solid draw with Naiditsch. Top four players are very close to each other within the range of two points. Vaibhav Suri wins Letsup MCA Online Blitz Grand Prix

GM Vaibhav Suri scored 31 points to win Letsup MCA Grand Prix Blitz Online. Despite not winning a single leg, making a podium finish in the first three leg made him a favorite to win the GP. World no.1 in Under-16 GM Nodirbek Abdusattorov was in a race to win the GP as he won two legs, however Vaibhav made better finish in the final two legs which allowed him to have a better best of four score than the newly crowned Asian Junior Online champion from Uzbekistan. Carlsen too strong for Giri | Legends of Chess Round 1

The Chess24 Legends of Chess tournament kicked off on 21st July with its preliminaries, where 6 legends of the sport and 4 younger geniuses fight it out over 4-game rapid matches with Armageddon Tiebreakers. Day 1 saw 3 mini-matches being decided outright, as Carlsen, Gelfand and Svidler managed to beat Giri, Ding and Anand respectively in contrasting styles. Nepomniachtchi and Leko needed Armageddons to see off Kramnik and Ivanchuk after tying the match in 'regular time'. 53rd Biel GMT: Harikrishna starts with a draw

Harikrishna launched a strong attack against Michael Adams but the English GM put up a staunch defence which forced the point to be split. The Biel Chess960 winner Harikrishna is currently at the third position, followed by Adams. Vincent Keymer jumped into the sole lead as he scored a comfortable victory over Spanish GM David Anton Guijarro. The only other victor in the round was Arkadij Naiditsch who punished his opponent local GM Noel Studer for his positional errors. Meanwhile Wojtaszek made a draw with Romain Edouard to remain just a half point behind the leader after Round 1. In this two-part series, Anish Giri appeared with his wife Sopiko Guramishvili on their fifth wedding anniversary. Their cute little son Daniel also made a short and sweet appearance at the beginning of part 1. While the first part has Rapid fire, Blindfold game and Know-your-partner quiz games along with various games of Anish Giri, in the second part we get to see Giri answering a lot of questions asked by the fans. Harikrishna finishes second in Biel GMT Rapid

Pentala Harikrishna continued his momentum from the previous day as he scored an unbeaten 10 points to secure second position. Polish GM Radoslaw Wojtaszek won the Rapid event by scoring 12 points. Harikrishna came very close to defeating him but the game ended up in a draw. Both of them remained undefeated in the Rapid. German GM Vincent Keymer also scored 10 points. He finished third according to the tie-break score. Monday 20th July is a rest day. Classical part of the GMT (Grandmaster Triathlon) will begin from Tuesday 21st July. Humpy loses in the Finals of the Speed Chess Championship 2020

Humpy's brilliant run at the final leg of FIDE chess.com Women's Speed Chess Championship came to an end as she lost to former Women's World Champion Alexandra Kosteniuk by 5-7. The score was equal 3.5-3.5 after Game 7 and Humpy almost had a decisive advantage in Game 8 which was also the last Blitz game of the Finals. However she misplayed her position and allowed Kosteniuk to get the upper hand. Three consecutive losses was a big blow to Humpy's momentum and it was surmountable for her to make a comeback. Harikrishna wins Biel Chess960

Pentala Harikrishna becomes the first Indian to win an over-the-board Masters tournament since the Covid-19 pandemic breakout and the cancellation/reschedule of multitude of tournaments across the world. Harikrishna scored an unbeaten 5.5/7 and finished a half point ahead of the competition to win the Chess960 part of the 53rd Biel Chess Festival which started on Saturday 18th July in Switzerland. The Rapid event will take place on Sunday 19th July. Monday will be a rest day and the Classical part will start from 21st and conclude on 29th July. Blitz will take place on Saturday 25th July. Humpy beat the former Women's World Champion and Women's World no.1 Hou Yifan by 6-5 in the Semi-Finals of FIDE chess.com Women's Speed Chess Championship leg four. She will now face another former Women's World Champion Alexandra Kosteniuk in the Finals which will take place tomorrow at 6 p.m. IST in the evening. Humpy started the Semi-Final with a win, then she lost the next two games and immediately struck back with two consecutive wins. She was down by 4-5 heading into the last two Bullet games. IM Dhulipalla Bala Chandra Prasad scored an unprecedented 9.0/9 and took a sole lead heading into the final round. He drew his last round game to clinch the championship with a score of 9.5/10. Reigning National Sub-Junior champion IM Raja Rithvik R also played brilliantly, scored sole 8.5/10 to secure second position. GM Diptayan Ghosh was placed third among five other players who finished at 8.0/10, due to his better tie-break score. Y V K Chakravarthy organized this event in memory of his late mother Leelavathi. Humpy beat the winner of FIDE WSCC GP leg 2, Valentina Gunina by 6-5 and now she will face the Women's World no.1 Hou Yifan in the Semi-Finals. Despite starting with 0-2, Humpy immediately struck back with two consecutive wins and made it 2-2. Then she took a lead by 5.5-3.5 and eventually 6-5 to secure her place in the Semi-Finals. Harika had a difficult start against former Women's World Champion Alexandra Kosteniuk 1.5-4.5 and she was unable to make a comeback, finishing with 3-9.
