Sunway Sitges Open R8: Cheparinov and Moussard share the lead with 6.5/8

Cheparinov and Moussard are the only two players among the leaders to have won the game and maintain their lead with 6.5/8 in VII Sunway Sitges Open. They will now face each other in the penultimate round. Korobov was held to a draw by Checa. Leon turned around a difficult position to a favorable endgame and win it. He will now face his GM of the event Nino Batsiashvili in Round 9. Souhardo beat IM Garriga and he will go against IM Yovann Gatineau. Nihal, Gukesh, Rakshitta and Mrinmoy advance to the Semi-Finals of FIDE Online World Cadets and Youth Rapid

Four out of twelve Indian players have advanced to the Semi-Finals of FIDE Online World Cadets and Youth Rapid Championships. They are - Nihal, Gukesh, Rakshitta and Mrinmoy. Nihal beat Just Wang by 1.5-0.5, Gukesh beat Pranav 2-1, Rakshitta beat Hernandez 2-1 and Mrinmoy was the only Indian to beat his opponent Ryo Chen by 2-0. They all have advanced in the Semi-Finals in Under-18 Open, Under-14 Open, Under-16 Girls and Under-10 Open respectively. India's medal hopes lie in these four players. Sunway Sitges Open R7: Korobov is back at the top

Top two boards ending up in hard fought draws allowed the defending champion and top seed of the tournament Anton Korobov to catch up with the leaders with 5.5/7. Korobov along with four overnight leaders Jaime, Cheparinov, Niemann and Moussard are now joined by Checa, Fier and Nevednichy at the top spot with an eight-way lead. With three rounds to go, the tournament is still wide open, anyone can win. IM Leon salvaged a draw against FM Marc Sancho, Souhardo beat Alex Morales and Shubham drew with Antonio Sole in Round 7. FIDE Online World Cadets and Youth Rapid: 12 Indians advance to the Quarter-Finals

12 out 16 Indian players advance to the Quarter-Finals of FIDE Online World Cadets and Youth Rapid Championships. Nihal, Iniyan, Priyanka Nutakki, Jyothsna, Rakshitta, Gukesh, Pranav V, Aditya, Savitha, Anupam, Mrinmoy and Shreya Hipparagi are the twelve players who have advanced to the Quarter-Finals. Only Gukesh and Pranav will face each other in the Under-14 Open which means only one Indian player will advance to the next stage in that group. Sunway Sitges Open R6: Cheparinov, Moussard, Latasa and Niemann in a four-way lead

Jules Moussard beat overnight leader Vojtech Plat to join the four-way lead along with Ivan Cheparinov, Jaime Santos Latasa and Hans Niemann with 5.0/6 at the conclusion of the sixth round in VII Sunway Sitges International Open. Leon beat compatriot Souhardo to take his score to 4.0/6. He will now face FM Marc Carbonell Sancho in the seventh round. GM-elect IM Hans Niemann wins the second night of blitz tournament. 10 things that made the Super Juniors Cup 2020 special

The Super Juniors Cup 2020 was held from the 6th to the 10th of December 2020. 32 of the most talented youngsters of Indian chess took part in it. The total prize disbursed at the end of the event was a massive Rs.567,224. GM Nihal Sarin won the tournament and went back home richer by Rs.135,494. This was one of the biggest events ever to be held online in Indian chess. IM Sagar Shah takes you through the 10 things that made the Super Juniors Cup 2020 special. Sunway Sitges Open R5: Leon Mendonca holds Oleg Romanishin to a draw

GM Vojtech Plat emerged as the sole leader after round 5 as he was the only one to score a victory among eleven leaders. Plat beat GM Bilel to take the sole lead with 4.5/5. 15 players are behind him at 4.0/5. IM Leon Mendonca held legendary Ukrainian GM Oleg Romanishin to a draw. Leon could have pushed for a win in the endgame but it was not that easy. He will now face the only other Indian taking part in Group-A, Souhardo Basak in Round 6 on Saturday 19th December from 9 p.m. IST. Shubham Bandikatte suffered his first loss of the event in Group B. Eleven players share the lead with 3.5 points at the conclusion of Round 4 in VII Sunway Sitges Open. All top three boards ended up in draws in Round 4. Although GM Nicholas Checa was winning against GM Jules Moussard for the better part of the game, but he could not convert it. GM Nino Batsiashvili scored a fantastic win against GM Karen Grigoryan. IM Leon Mendonca was held to a draw by FM Mahel Boyer and Souhardo Basak lost to IM Hans Niemann. Top seed Anton Korobov was held to a draw by Spanish GM Marc Narciso Dublan. Defending champion Korobov had an extra pawn but he couldn't keep it and Dublan managed to find a perpetual check to make a draw. Only six players are at 100% score at the conclusion of Round 3. Leon played the endgame brilliantly to beat Victor Alvarez and Souhardo held IM Christophe Sochacki to a draw, although he had a winning opportunity. First FIDE Online World Corporate Chess Championship announced

Covid-19 pandemic has drastically reduced the number of over-the-board tournaments. However FIDE continues to evolve and adapt to changing circumstances. In one of the firsts, FIDE announced about the first edition of FIDE Online World Corporate Championship which will take place online between 19th and 21st February 2021. This will be a good opportunity for corporates to increase team bonding, sense of belonging to their workplace and a chance to showcase their talent among friends, coworkers and peers. Top seed Anton Korobov survived a massive scare against IM Jesus Martin Duque. Eventually Korobov won from a completely lost position. Armenia no.4 Karen Grigoryan won the Blitz event with a score of 7.5/9. Untitled Souhardo Basak held former Women's world champion GM Antoaneta Stefanova to a draw. IM Leon Mendonca lost to WGM Laura Unuk. 22 players are in the lead with a 100% score at the completion of Round 2. Sunway Sitges Open R1: Top seeds make a smooth start

The 7th edition of the over-the-board tournament, Sunway Sitges International Open started on Sunday 13th December. Defending champion and newly crowned Ukraine champion GM Anton Korobov is the top seed of the tournament. IM Leon Mendonca's journey to become India's latest GM is still on as he just needs his final GM-norm. Souhardo Basak is the only other Indian taking part in Group A, he is looking for his final IM-norm and touch the 2400 rating barrier.
