Kishan Kumar and Iftikar Alom Mazumdar scored an unbeaten 8.5/10 each at 3rd Aparna Dutta Memorial Rating Open 2023. Kishan won the tournament due to better tie-breaks, Iftikar was placed second. 12-year-old Oishik Mondal scored sole 8/10 to secure third place. Kishan faced Iftikar in the sixth round which ended in a draw. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹301000. The top three prizes were ₹40000, ₹30000 and ₹20000 along with a trophy each respectively. This is Kishan's third overall, second rating tournament triumph of the year after winning Chess for Everyone in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh nearly five and a half months ago. Deep Sengupta clinches 21st Capechecs Open 2023, Sayantan Das second

GM Deep Sengupta and GM Sayantan Das scored 7.5/9 each at Capechecs Open part of 21st Cap d'Agde Grand Prix International 2023. Deep won the tournament due to better tie-breaks, Sayantan secured second place. Deep remained unbeaten. He went into the final round with a sole lead 7/8, a half point ahead of the rest and drew against GM Bilel Bellahcene (ALG). Bilel finished third 7/9. Sayantan defeated IM Mehar Chinna Reddy C H to finish second. Mehar was placed eighth. GM Raja Rithvik R is the only other Indian to make a top ten finish. He scored 6.5/9 to finish ninth. The total prize fund was €12000. The top three prizes were €3000 + trophy, €1800 and €1400 each respectively. Nandhidhaa wins 4th Tamil Nadu IM-norm Closed Circuit 2023, Srihari L second

WGM Nandhidhaa P V and Srihari L scored 6.5/9 each at 4th Tamil Nadu IM-norm Closed Circuit Chess Tournament 2023. Nandhidhaa won the tournament as she started the event with a victory over Srihari. Thus, her tie-breaks were better. IM David Gochelashvili scored sole 5.5/9 to finish third. Nandhidhaa's 2465 performance earned her fifth IM-norm. She now requires to fulfill the rating criteria to become India's next International Master. Nandhidhaa also gained 46.8 Elo rating points in the process. The Tamil Nadu IM-norm Closed Circuit tournaments have already produced three IM-norms out of the four events. That definitely speaks about the success of the events. IM FT Harikrishnan A Ra scored 8.5/9 to win D A V Krida Kendram Blitz Rating Open 2023. He finished a half point ahead of the field. FM Ayushh Ravikumar and Vignesh B edged past three more players on tie-breaks to secure second and third place respectively, scoring 8/9 each. Both of them suffered their sole loss against the eventual champion, Harikrishnan. The top seed scored 8/8 and was a full point ahead of the rest heading into the final round. The total prize fund for the tournament was ₹100000. The top three prizes were ₹15000, ₹13000 and ₹11000 each. One less than a dozen players scored 8/9 at D A V Krida Kendram Rapid Rating Open 2023. They were - IM Ajay Karthikeyan, FM Karthik Rajaa, IM Aswath S, GM Laxman R R, IM Sai Agni Jeevitesh J, Sailesh R, FM Prasannaa S, Aakash G, Jinan Jomon, Sarveshwaran V and Vignesh B. Ajay, Karthik and Aswath were placed first, second and third respectively according to tie-breaks. Out of the eleven players, only three - Ajay, Karthik and GM Laxman remained undefeated. The year 2023 ends with two consecutive GM tournaments in Tamil Nadu. It is the only state to have consecutive GM tournaments in India. Velammal Hospital presents Madurai Chess Thiruvizha (Festival) Athens of the East 3rd GM Open tournament from 23rd to 30th December 2023. The total cash prize fund is ₹40 lacs + trophies, bicycle and bikes are there. Category A has a total prize fund of ₹2000000, the top three prizes being ₹300000, ₹200000 and ₹150000 along with a trophy each. Category B and C have a total prize fund ₹1000000 each. The 14th Chennai GM Open will take place from 31st December to 7th January 2024. It offers a total prize fund ₹2000000. Satendra Singh and Wanawee Buranasing (THA) scored an unbeaten 6/7 each at 1st The Rooky International Open 2023 Challenger. Satendra won the tournament due to better tie-breaks, Wanawee was placed second. Their fifth round battle against each other ended in a draw.Maksim M Smirnov and Sivakorn Sinpolai (THA) scored 5.5/7 each. They secured third and fourth place respectively. Satendra defeated Smirnov in the third round. The top three prizes in the Challengers section were THB 2000, 1500 and 1000 along with a trophy each. Rahul Gurung wins 21st Northeast Rating Championship 2023

Rahul Gurung, Soram Rahul Singh and Mrinmoy Rajkhowa scored 8/9 each at 21st Northeast Rating Chess Championship 2023. Rahul won the tournament due to better tie-breaks. Soram and Mrinmoy secured second and third place respectively. All three of them remained undefeated. Only Mrinmoy was the closest to beat the eventual champion, Rahul in the penultimate eighth round. However, he decided to repeat moves and make a draw in a completely winning rook endgame. Arjun Adireddy dominates 3rd Tamil Nadu IM-norm Closed 2023 with a 2709 performance, Harsh second

CM Arjun Adireddy scored a mammoth 8.5/9 to win 3rd Tamil Nadu IM-norm Closed Circuit Chess Tournament 2023. He remained undefeated, performed at 2709, increased his Elo rating by 212.4 points and finished a full point ahead of the competition. FM Harsh Suresh scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 to finish second. Both Arjun and Harsh scored an IM-norm each. Arjun fulfilled his norm criteria in eight games. This is Harsh's second IM-norm. He finished two points ahead of the second runner-up. 36th National Under 9 Open and Girls Round 8-9: Advik and Samhita take sole lead

Going into the penultimate 10th round of the National Under-9 Championships, the leader situation is clarified both in the Open and Girls section. In the open section, Advik Amit Agrawal (1378, MAH) was held to his first draw of the tournament by Rahul Ramakrishnan (1531, PUD). Nevertheless, he has a full-point lead over the field with 8.5/9 points. In the Girls category, Samhita Pungavanam (1345, TEL) took back the sole lead with a powerful win over Dishita Dey (1263, JHA).
