Jaiveer Mahendru perfect at Children's Research University Under 18 Rapid Rating 2026
FM Jaiveer Mahendru scored a perfect 9/9 points to win the Children’s Research University All India Open FIDE Rated Rapid Under-18 Chess Tournament-2026. 10 players scored 8/9 points to finish from 2nd to 11th place; better tiebreak scores helped Viresh Sharnarthi (MAH) and Haridev S (TN) to secure 2nd and 3rd place. The tournament was organised by CR University at the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex in Ahmedabad, on 28th March 2026. Jaiveer's 5th Triumph of 2026
Earlier this year, Jaiveer Mahendru won Vidyalankar Institute of Technology’s 2nd Rapid Rating, the Maharashtra State Blitz Championship, the Budapest One Week 2026 March IM-B, and the Rejoice Chess Orientation Blitz Chess Festival 2026, demonstrating his consistency.
Four players – Jaiveer Mahendru, Jval Saurin Patel, Viresh Sharnarthi, and Ajjesh JR led the field with seven points each. While Sharnarthi defeated Jval, Jaiveer overcame a stiff resistance from Ajjesh to emerge as a joint leader with a score of 8.0/8. In the final round, Jaiveer got the better of Sharnarthi to clinch the title and a cash prize of ₹25,000.







A total of 986 players from all over India, with a time control of 10 minutes plus 5 seconds increment in delay mode, were among the salient features of the tournament. Dilip Paras Bhoir, with a rating of 2227, was the top seed of the tournament, who suffered a loss to the ultimate winner Jaiveer in the seventh round.







Gujarat’s first grandmaster, Tejas Bakre, inaugurated the tournament. Shri TS Joshi, Vice Chancellor of the CR University, distributed the prizes in the honorable presence of Shri Bhavesh Patel, former vice president of All India Chess Federation, and Shri Mahendra Patel, the tournament director.
