12 Year old Avirat Chauhan wins Children’s Research University Open Rapid Rating 2026

12-year-old Avirat Chauhan of Maharashtra scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win the Children’s Research University presents All India Open FIDE Rated Rapid Chess Tournament 2026. All top 3 finishers, including Avirat Chauhan, Rosh Jain, and Aansh Nandan Nerurkar, scored 8.5/9 points to secure top 3 positions on tie-break scores. The tournament was organised by CR University at the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex in Ahmedabad, on 29th March 2026. The total prize fund of this One Day Rapid Rating event was ₹7,00,000, with top 3 prizes of ₹51,000, ₹41,000, and ₹31,000. Photos: IA Prof R. Anantharam



Avirat's 2nd Rating Triumph of 2026

Avirat Chauhan secured his second rating tournament triumph of 2026. He won the 9th LBHM All India Open Fide Rapid Rating Chess Tournament. Here at Children’s Research University, Open Avirat scored an important win over FM Madhvendra Pratap Sharma of Madhya Pradesh to score 8.5/9 points. In the last round, Rosh Jain defeated IM Ethan Vaz, while Aansh Nandan Nerurkar won against Kartavya Anadkat to secure 2nd and 3rd spot.

Champion: Avirat Chauhan

Runner up: Rosh Jain

Second runner up: Aansh Nandan Nerurkar

The fourth place was secured by Javal Saurin Patel of Gujarat

Manas Gaikwad of Maharashtra had a good tiebreak to win the fifth place

987 players from almost all parts of India took part in the nine-round event, with a time control of 10 minutes + 5 seconds of increment. IM Anuj Shrivatri of Madhya Pradesh was the top seed of the tournament. Ethan Vaz of Goa, Moksh Amit Doshi of Gujarat, and Aakash Dalvi of Maharashtra were the other international masters in the fray.
