We are headed into a highly exciting finish going into the final round of the Aurionpro Mumbai International GM and Junior Chess Tournament 2025. In the GM Open, there are 3 players co-leading with 7/8 points - GM Mamikon Gharibyan, GM Lalit Babu MR, and GM Neelotpal Das! In the Juniors tournament, Aansh Nandan Nerurkar and Madhesh Kumar S are co-leaders with 7/8 points as well. Who do you think will become the Champion of this very strong event? 3-way tie at the GM Open going into Round 9

 

In what turned out to be a highly exciting round with many decisive games, 3 players emerged as co-leaders before the final round of the Aurionpro International Mumbai GM Open 2025. In the top board, GM Mamikon Gharibyan took down the sole leader GM Aleksej Aleksandrov in a wild game!

Grandmaster Lalit Babu MR stumbled a little in between, but nevertheless managed to score a smooth win over GM Alexei Fedorov in the 8th round! With this win, Lalit also joins the lead with 7/8 points.

Grandmaster Neelotpal Das took down IM Arsen Davytan in a wild encounter. Both sides had winning chances, but it was Neelotpal who held his nerves and converted the position to a win!

There were two big upsets in the GM Open today! Siddhant Poonja scored a fantastic win over GM Mihail Nikitenko, while Viresh Sharnarthi took down GM Raset Ziatdinov with the Black pieces as well.

In the Juniors tournament, the top seed Aansh Nandan Nerurkar scored a highly tense win over Madhvendra Pratap Sharma! Aansh turned around a close to lost position and won after a marathon game of 105 moves.

Vyom Malhotra won a wild game against Samuel Stephen Noble S with the White pieces, turning around a completely lost position to a winning one!

The sole leader Madhesh Kumar S drew against Advik Amit Agrawal on the top board! This means there are two leaders going into the final round - Madhesh and Aansh. Who do you think will win?
