Vaibhav Jayant Raut clinches Prague International Chess Festival 2022 Blitz
Vaibhav Jayant Raut made a fantastic start of scoring an unbeaten 8.5/10. He had a half point lead heading into the final round of Prague International Chess Festival 2022 - G Blitz. A last round loss against the top seed of the tournament, Simon Knudsen (GER) did not deter his championship hopes. Four players scored 8.5/11 each. Vaibhav clinched the first place due to better tie-breaks. He gained 100.2 Elo rating points and won CZK 1000 (approx. ₹3294) as his prize. Vaibhav's first overseas triumph
The 19-year-old teenager from Nagpur has won several tournaments in his district. However, this is his first victory outside the country. 14-year-old Bhavik Ahuja is the only other Indian player to finish in the top 25. He scored 6.5/11, gained 118 Elo rating points and was placed 19th.
A total of 86 players including an IM took part from 16 countries across the world in this eleven round Blitz Rating tournament. The event was organized by Novy Bor Chess Club at Don Giovanni Hotel, Prague, Czech Republic on 15th June 2022. The time control was 3 minutes + 2 seconds increment.
