Tepe Sigeman & Co 2022 R2: Arjun Erigaisi outplays Salem, now World no.51

by Shahid Ahmed - 05/05/2022

Arjun Erigaisi ensured his opponent UAE no.1 does not get into his familiar territory, which is to play attacking chess. He beautifully maneuvered his pieces and did not let the sharp player express his creativity. Eventually, he had to sacrifice an exchange in order to create an escape for his trapped knight. Czech Republic no.1 David Navara made a beautiful queen sacrifice which was thwarted by the American prodigy, Hans Niemann. The game ended in a draw. Michael Adams (ENG) and Alexei Shirov (ESP) drew with Nils Grandelius (SWE) and Jorden van Foreest (NED). Round 3 starts today at 3:00 p.m. CET (6:30 p.m. IST).
