Tanmay Rajbongshi clear first at 23rd North Eastern States Rating Championship 2025
Tanmay Rajbongshi (ASM) scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 23rd North Eastern States Rating Chess Championship 2025. 14-year-old Tanmay finished a half point ahead of the rest. Four players - Iftikar Alom Mazumdar (ASM). Lalrinsanga C (MIZ), Rahul Gurung (SIK) and Rajdeep Das (ASM) scored 7.5/9 each. They secured second to fourth place respectively according to tie-breaks. Top six remained undefeated. The top three prizes were ₹100000, ₹60000 and ₹40000 each. The five-day nine round Rating tournament was organized by Mizoram Chess Association at R Dengthuama Hall, Mualpui in Aizawl, Mizoram from 16th to 21st December 2025. Tanmay's maiden North Eastern States title
Iftikar Alom Mazumdar, Tanmay Rajbongshi and Dhruv Phukan were the leaders 7/8, heading into the final round. Eight players were trailing them by a half point at 6.5/8 each. Dhruv lost to Tanmay and the latter became champion. Rohit Gurung drew against Iftikar and the latter finished second. Melesai lost to Lalrinsanga C who claimed third place.
A total of 271 players took part from various places of the Northeast region of India. The five-day nine round Rating tournament was organized by Mizoram Chess Association at R Dengthuama Hall, Mualpui in Aizawl, Mizoram from 16th to 21st December 2025. The time control of the event was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment per move.
