Shahil earns his second GM-norm
IM Egor Bogdanov (UKR) and IM Fabien Guilleux (FRA) were the coleaders 6.5/8, heading into the final round. They drew their game against each other to finish second and third. IM Shahil Dey defeated compatriot and reigning Commonwealth Gold medalist, GM Mitrabha Guha to become the champion. The Open B (1400-2000) event witnessed the participation of 71 players and Open C (<1600) had 26 players.
A total of 97 players including 6 GMs, 10 IMs and a WIM took part from ten countries across the world in this seven-day nine round Rating Open A (>1800) tournament. It was organized by Emeraude Echecs at Salle Omnisport de Plancoet in Plancoet, France from 13th to 19th July 2024. The time control of the event was 40 moves in 90 minutes + 30 minutes + 30 seconds increment per move.
