Shahil Dey clear first at 1st Arunachal Pradesh Chess Festival Rating Open A 2025
IM Shahil Dey scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 to win 1st Arunachal Pradesh Chess Festival Rating Open A 2025. He finished a half point ahead of the field. Four players - IM Mayank Chakraborty, IM Mehar Chinna Reddy C H, Arnav Agrawal and Kartavya Anadkat scored 7/9 each. They were placed second to fifth respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the festival was ₹3500000, ₹1500000 in Open A. The top three prizes in Category A were ₹300000, ₹200000 and ₹100000 along with a trophy each. The five-day nine round Rating Open tournament was organized by All Arunachal Pradesh Chess Association at Padi Yubbe Indoor Stadium in Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh from 28th November to 2nd December 2025. IM Shahil Dey was the sole leader 7/8, heading into the last round. IM Mayank Chakraborty and Daksh Jagesia were the only two players trailing him by a half point at 6.5/8 each. Shail drew with Mayank to become the champion, Mayank finished second. IM Mehar Chinna Reddy C H defeated Daksh to finish third. Paras Dilip Bhoir (2272) offered a rook trade at an inopportune moment 21...Ne4? His opponent, IM Shahil Dey (2411) seized his chance 22.Rxc8 Rxc8 23.Rxc8 Bxc8 24.Qd1 Qf7 25.Qd4 Kf8 26.Ne5 Qf6 27.Qxd5 and White went on to convert his extra pawn advantage into a win comfortably.
A total of 109 players including seven IMs took part from all over the country and one from the USA. The five-day nine round Rating Open tournament was organized by All Arunachal Pradesh Chess Association at Padi Yubbe Indoor Stadium in Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh from 28th November to 2nd December 2025. The time control of the event was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment per move.
