Magnus Carlsen wins his first major team event for Offerspill Sjakklubb at 38th European Club Cup 2023

by Shahid Ahmed - 08/10/2023

Pranav Venkatesh once again scored a crucial victory in the final round. Aryan Tari redeemed himself from the penultimate round loss. Raunak Sadhwani scored another solid draw. All these ensured Offerspill Sjakklub beat Asnieres - Le Grand Echiquier to win 38th European Club Cup 2023 Open. This is Magnus Carlsen's biggest team event triumph of his career so far. After winning the FIDE World Cup 2023, Carlsen has once again climbed another mountain, something that has eluded him for a long time, clinching a major team championship. Pranav's fantastic performance earned him a tweet from the world no.1 - "Pranav is buddy and buddy is Pranav". Photos: Niki Riga/ECCC 2023
