Dhulipalla Bala Chandra Prasad wins SonFlow Cup - Kolding City Championship 2023

IM Dhulipalla Bala Chandra Prasad scored an unbeaten 4/5 to win SonFlow Cup - Kolding City Championship 2023. Bala Chandra's biggest win of the event was against the reigning Danish champion and the eventual runner-up, GM Boris Chatalbashev. He scored 3.5/5. IM Filip Boe Olsen (DEN) edged past GM Vladimir Hamitevici (MDA) to finish third. In Master 2 group, IM Sidhant Mohapatra scored an unbeaten 3.5/5 to finish second. FM Daniel Kopylov (GER) won the section scoring 4/5. The top three prizes in Master 1 were 5000 + trophy, 2000 and 1000 Danish Kroner each. Sidhant Mohapatra second in Master 2

IM Dhulipalla Bala Chandra Prasad won his first tournament of the year. The last event he won was a Rating Open tournament in November 2022 in Serbia. He continued his good form in Romanian Grand Prix 2023, just days after his triumph. IM Sidhant Mohapatra also continues his good run after earning his maiden GM-norm at Reykjavik Open 2023. He also performed quite well at the Romanian GP 2023 Rapid Rating tournament.

25.b3 allowed Black to liquidate into a favorable double rook endgame 25...Nxf3+ 26.gxf3 Rbc8 27.Kd2 Rc5 28.Rd1 b4 29.Ke3 g5 and IM Dhulipalla Bala Chandra Prasad (2441) played masterfully to beat the reigning Danish champion, GM Boris Chatalbashev (DEN, 2475).

It was announced in the tournament report that the next edition will take place from 12th to 14th April 2024.


A total of nine Master group consisting of six players in each of them took part from seven countries across the world. The three-day five-round Round-Robin Rating tournament was held at Kolding Education Center in Kolding, Denmark from 21st and 23rd April 2023. The time control of the tournament was 90 minutes / 40 moves + 30 minutes + 30 seconds increment per move starting from move no.1.
