Chess Academy of Armenia invites you to 16th Andranik Margaryan Memorial GM and IM Round-Robin tournaments 2026. The tournaments will take place at Chess Academy of Armenia in Yerevan, Armenia from 9th to 16th January 2026. GM Round-Robin tournament has a prize fund of US$ 3700. The top three prizes are $1500, $1000 and $700. Apart from that there are Chessify bundle prizes worth $200, $100 and $100 in the GM-Round Robin, for IM Round-Robin, the top three prizes are Chessify bundles worth $150, $100 and $50. Those who are interested in participating in either of the norm tournaments, read the details and contact the organizer accordingly. Grandmasters will be provided accommodation with full board. This January, play a GM or IM Round-Robin tournament in Yerevan, Armenia
The organizers are looking for two GMs around the Elo rating 2500. They will be given an honorarium of US$ 350 per player. Those who are interested can contact the organizer at the details given at the end of the article.
Venue, Schedule and Time control
The Chess Academy of Armenia will organize '16th Andranik Margaryan Memorial" International Chess Tournament GM and IM Rounb-Robin from 9th to 16th January 2026 at Chess Academy of Armenia (34 Shevchenko Str., Yerevan, Armenia). The tournament is a 10-player GM and IM-norm Round Robin event held in nine rounds.

Opening Ceremony - 9 January, 13:00
1st round - 9 January, 15:00
2nd round - 10 January, 15:00
3rd round - 11 January, 10:30
4th round - 11 January, 16:30
5th round - 12 January, 15:00
6th round- 13 January, 15:00
7th round - 14 January, 15:00
8th round - 15 January, 15:00
9th round - 16 January, 11:00
Time mentioned is in Armenia local time.
Time control: 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, plus 15 minutes for the whole game (with 30 seconds increment starting from move one).
Prizes
The total prize fund for GM-norm tournament is 3700 USD. (387 AMD ≈ 1 USD).
1st place - $1500
2nd place - $1000
3rd place - $700
4th place - $500
Tournament partner "Chessify" company has established special prizes for the participants of the tournament.

For IM-norm tournament, the following Chessify prizes are there.

Chess players with rating 2501 and above - 100 USD
Chess players with rating 2450 - 2500 - 150 USD
Chess players with rating 2400 - 2450 - 250 USD
Chess players with rating 2350 - 2400 - 300 USD
Chess players with rating 2300 - 2350 - 400 USD
IM-norm
Chess players with rating 2300 - 2400 – 200 USD
Chess players with rating 2250 - 2300 – 300 USD
Chess players with rating 2200 - 2250 - 400 USD
Chess players with rating 2100 - 2200 - 500 USD
Tie-break rules
GM-norm
In case of a tie the monetary prizes are distributed equally.
Tiebreaks will be carried out according to the following rules:
a) Sonneborn-Berger,
b) number of games played with the black pieces,
c) personal games,
d) number of victories.
IM-norm
Tie breaks will be carried out according to the following rules:
a) Sonneborn-Berger,
b) number of games played with the black pieces,
c) personal games,
d) number of victories.
Accommodation
Accommodation with full board in Academy Guest House is 40 USD per person per day.
*Accommodation with full board is provided free of charge for GMs.
