Arush A dominates 1st Andaman Rating Open 2025
Arush A scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 1sth Andaman Nicobar Rating Open 2025. He finished a half point ahead of the competition. Prashant J Naik scored sole 8/9 to secure second place. Five players - Sudhir Kumar Sinha, Arul Anandh S P K, Shiraj Bhosale, Tanish Ragavan S and Abhijith U scored 7.5/9 each. They secured third to seventh place respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund was ₹700000. The top three prizes were ₹100000, ₹70000 and ₹5000 along with a trophy each. The six-day nine round Rating tournament was organized by Andaman Nicobar Chess Association at Jalsa in Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands from 23rd to 28th August 2025. 12-year-old Arush A, the reigning Kerala State Senior Rating Open 2025 champion, was the sole leader 7.5/8, heading into the last round. Five players - Shriraj Bhosale, Peter Anand A, Sudhir Kumar Sinha, Prashanth J Naik and Ashish Chaudhari were trailing by a half point at 7/8 each. Arush defeated Ashish to become a clear champion. Peter lost to Prashanth who finished second. Sudhir drew against Shriraj and the former was placed third.

Arush A (2254) launched a strong attack on the queenside 10...b4 11.Nb1 c5 12.dxc5 Nxc5 13.f3 Qxa2 Indrajeet Mahindrakar (2067) tried to generate some counterplay. However, his opponent thwarted all his attempts and successfully hunted his opponent's king.

A total of 339 players including an IM took part from all over the country, one from Nepal, Sri Lanka and USA each. The six-day nine round Rating tournament was organized by Andaman Nicobar Chess Association at Jalsa in Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands from 23rd to 28th August 2025. The time control of the event was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment per move.
