S. Nitin wins Rotolawyer's Cup 2015

Rotolawyer's Cup 2015 was a strong event held in Belthangady taluka in Karnataka. The tournament attracted two grandmasters and five International Masters. S.Nitin won the tournament with a score of 8.0/9. Our reporter Priyadarshan Banjan was at the venue and has sent us a illustrated report with pictures. We also have a game annotated by the winner.

Rajdeep and Varshini win National U-17 Championships 2015

Rajdeep Sarkar and Varshini emerged as the National under 17 champions held in Bangalore, Karnataka. While the open section was hard fought with all the top three places scoring 8.0/11, in the girls section V.Varishini won the tournament with great ease with a score of 10.0/11. One of the highlights of the tournament was R.Vaishali playing in the open section and finishing third. We have pictures and game annotations from the event.

Isle of Man winner: Harikrishna in interview

As the Isle of Man tournament came to an end the tournament winner, Pentala Harikrishna, packed his bags to travel to the World Blitz Championships in Berlin. In between his travel and intense schedule he found time to give us a small interview. Apart from this we have a beautifully annotated game by one of the GM norm scorers from this tournament.

R1-5: Vidit flawless at the World Rapids

He played five opponents who had an Elo of 2700 and above, one of them was 2846! Showing some brilliant chess Vidit Gujrathi scored 4.0/5 (three wins and two draws). His performance is a mind boggling 2992 and he is already gaining 57 Elo points! The year 2015 saw Delhi hosting numerous chess tournaments, making it an ideal hub for improving chess players. The Smt. Tara Devi Bagla Memorial tournament was an effort of a Foundation of chess parents to enable Delhi youngsters to have access to quality chess tournaments. T. Purushothaman won it with a score of 8.0/9 followed by Vinay Kumar Matta and Santu Mondal.

Padmini joint first at the Malaysian Open

The 12th IGB Dato Arthur Tan Malaysian Open was a strong event with the participation of eight grandmasters and 27 International Masters. In the end there was a tie for the top spot between six players who scored 7.0/9. One amongst them was India's very own IM Padmini Rout who performed exceedingly well gaining 15 Elo points.

Sethuraman was the last Indian standing at the World Cup 2015. After he lost the first round against Mamedyarov he was surely under a lot of pressure. In the second game of the match, the Indian tried his best to put maximum pressure on his opponent, but Mamedyarov did not flinch, held on and made a draw to advance to the fourth round.
