Hikaru Nakamura won the Gibraltar Masters 2016 in great style. For Indians it was a highly successful event as 16 out of the 21 players, we had out there, increased their rating. Sethuraman was the best performer finishing fourth, while Harikrishna settled for fifth. Chess, entertainment, happiness -- the players and parents of the juniors at the IIFL Wealth Mumbai International and Junior Tournament are having a gala time as the event approaches its final leg. The Junior tournament has a handful of leaders, with no clarity on how the tournament will end while the Open saw G.A. Stany taking the lead by beating Shardul Gagare, but then losing to Swapnil Dhopade to allow him and Himal Gusain to share the lead with 6.5/7. An illustrated report.

Hari in a hurry!

Harikrishna played the London System against Vidit Gujrathi and was able to subdue him with some nice attacking moves. With this win, Hari moves into the leaders pack with 6.5/8. Sethuraman and Abhijeet Gupta follow him on six points. The reason why today can be a big day for chess in India is that Harikrishna has a chance to overtake Anand on the live Elo rating list. After seven rounds Anton Guijarro leads the super strong Gibraltar Chess festival with 6.0/7. Four Indians, Harikrishna, Sethuraman, Vidit and Abhijeet Gupta follow on the leader's heels with 5.5/7. It was edge of the seat entertainment as the last round of the Tata Steel Challengers saw three players with a chance to win the title. In the end it was the 23-year-old from Chennai who drew his final round game and came out victorious. B. Adhiban not only played some great games of chess but also defended skillfully in nearly lost positions.
