Over the years, the Help Chess Foundation, founded by ChessBase India, has helped many young, talented chess players all over the country, realize their dream of pursuing chess. With the support of many people, this community has only grown over time. The idea behind this initiative was to provide talented players with help that would help them grow in their chess journey. This not only helps the chess players in their journey but also gives a chance to chess enthusiasts who want to contribute to the community in some way. One such player that has been on the receiving end of the S. Krishnan Scholarship is Arshiya Das, a young talent from Tripura. The donor, Kartik Krishnan, is a regular chess follower and wanted to play his part as an active member of the community. Find out more about both individuals in this article.

Leelajai Krishna N outstanding at 16th Paracin Open B 2023, Pranesh clinches Blitz, Ethan Vaz second

Indian players have always garnered a lot of success at Paracin International Chess Festival tournaments. The 16th edition was no different either. CM Aaditya Dhingra scored his second IM-norm in Open A (>2100) section with a performance of 2420. He increased his Elo rating by 131.2 points. 16-year-old Leelajai Krishna N won the Open B (≤2100 section) scoring an unbeaten 8.5/9. The teenager finished a full point ahead of the competition and gained 122.8 Elo rating points. GM Pranesh M won the Blitz Open scoring 9/11 and remained undefeated. FM Ethan Vaz also scored the same. He was adjudged second and gained 206 Elo rating points. The top three prizes in Open A were RSD 200000, 150000 and 110000, for Open B they were 55000, 42000 and 30000. Blitz had a total prize fund of RSD 60000. Arjun Erigaisi superb at 56th Biel GMT Blitz 2023 with a 2864 performance, now World no.17

Arjun Erigaisi ended his tough form by winning the Blitz event of 56th Biel Chess Festival GMT 2023. He scored 10.5/14, performed at 2864, gained 27.2 Elo rating points, taking his live rating to 2737.2, now he is world no.17 in Blitz. However, David Navara (CZE) and Vincent Keymer (GER) are currently leading the GMT standings with a score of 26/44 each. Arjun will face Jules Moussard (FRA), Bogdan-Daniel Deac (ROU) and Vincent Keymer (GER) in the last three rounds. Today is a rest day. GMT Round 5 starts tomorrow Monday 24th July. Priyanshu Patil wins Late Ramesh Vinayakrao Kotwal Memorial Rapid Rating Open 2023

Priyanshu Patil and Anshul Nanwani scored 8/9 each at Late Ramesh Vinayakrao Kotwal Memorial Rapid Rating Open 2023. Priyanshu won the tournament on tie-breaks. Anshul was adjudged second. The champion suffered his sole loss against the eventual second runner-up, Indrajeet Mahindrakar. The top seed of the event, Indrajeet edged past Nihaan Pohane to finish third with a 7.5/9 score. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹50000. The top three prizes were ₹21000, ₹11000 and ₹5000 each respectively. This is Priyanshu's first rating tournament triumph of his career. India bags seven Gold medals at Asian Schools Chess Championships 2023

India has won a total of 13 medals including 7 Gold, 4 Silver and 2 Bronze medals at Asian Schools Chess Championships 2023. India has also won Best Federation trophy as India won three Gold medals and a Silver in the Classical section. Hriday Garg is the only Indian who has won a Gold medal in all three formats - Classical, Rapid and Blitz in Under-7 Open category. He won Gold in Blitz with a perfect score of 7/7. Vignesh Advaith Vemula won two Gold medals in Rapid and Blitz, Vyom Malhotra clinched a Gold in Classical and two Silver in Rapid and Blitz, Pragnya H G won Gold in Classical, Kashthuri Bhai R Bronze in Rapid and Silver in Blitz, Amulya Guruprasad Silver in Classical, and Yashvi Jain Bronze in Blitz. A total of seven Indian players have won at least one medal in this event. 56th Biel MTO R5: Vantika Agrawal makes a strong start 4/5

GM Xiangzhi Bu defeated his fellow compatriot GM Yan Liu to emerge sole leader 4.5/5 at 56th Biel Chess Festival 2023 MTO. IM Aditya S Samant played solid chess to hold GM Pranav Anand to a draw after 99 moves. IM Harikrishnan A Ra made a quick draw against GM Ngoc Truong Son Nguyen (VIE). GM Aryan Chopra bounced back by scoring a victory over IM Lukasz Licznerski (POL). IM Vantika Agrawal defeated Xiongjian Peng (CHN) to register her third win in-a-row and move to 4/5. In the GMT, Arjun Erigaisi suffered his second consecutive loss in the Classical event. This time against the defending champion, Liem Quang Le (VIE). Kartavya Anadkat conquers 5th Kamlaram Welfare Society Rapid Rating Open 2023

Kartavya Anadkat scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 5th Kamlaram Welfare Society Rapid Rating Open 2023. Kartavya finished a half point ahead of the field. He defeated the eventual runner-up, Madhvendra Pratap Sharma and drew against the second runner-up, Aishwin Daniel. The reigning National Under-9 Open and Asian Under-10 Open triple Gold medalist, Madhvendra score 8/9 to secure second place. Aishwin scored 7.5/9 to be placed third. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹101000. The top three prizes were ₹15000, ₹10000 and ₹6000 along with a trophy each respectively. FM Kashish Manoj Jain and IM Ajay Krishna S scored contrasting yet fantastic victories at 56th Biel Chess Festival MTO Round 4. Kashish positionally outplayed his opponent GM Nikita Meshkovs (LAT). Ajay on the other hand, launched a sound attack against GM Viktor Erdos (HUN) to register a victory. GM Yan Liu (CHN) has taken sole lead by winning against GM Aryan Chopra. IM Aditya S Samant held GM Ngoc Truong Son Nguyen (VIE) to a draw. GM Pranav Anand defeated IM Marco Materia (FRA) to join Aditya in a four-way pursuit 3.5/4 each. Gukesh dominates Turkish Super League 2023 with Vidit & Vaishali, becomes youngest ever to cross 2750, now World no.11

GM D Gukesh defeated GM Klementy Sychev in the final round to become the youngest ever to cross 2750 in the live ratings. He is also now world no.11. His team Türk Hava Yollari Spor Kulübü won Türkiye Iş Bankasi Chess Super League 2023 with a round to spare. Gukesh's teammates, GM Vidit Gujrathi and IM Vaishali R all three of them remained undefeated. They scored 7.5/10, 6/8 and 9/11 each respectively. Vidit is now world no.25 and Vaishali world no.26 among women. Vaishali played all eleven games and she won her last five games in-a-row. The winning team scored an unbeaten 21/22 and finished two points ahead of the runner-up. Bayegan Pendik Satranç Spor Kulübü scored 19/21 to secure second place. GM Arjun Erigaisi had a great opportunity to win against GM David Navara (CZE) for the first time at 56th Biel Chess Festival GMT 2023. Despite finding the correct way to gain substantial advantage, the teenager could not find the intricate maneuver of his rooks, before creating an escape route for his king. This draw helped the Czech Republic no.1 to maintain his sole lead in the GMT 15.5/22. GM Aryan Chopra and IM Aditya S Samant scored comfortable victories to become the early leaders with GM Yan Liu (CHN) 3/3. Praggnanandhaa triumphs at V Géza Hetényi Memorial 2023 with a 2833 performance

R Praggnanandhaa drew his final round game against Radoslaw Wojtaszek to win V Géza Hetényi Memorial 2023. The teenager finished a full point ahead a strong field having the average rating of 2669. He performed at 2833 and gained 17.3 Elo rating points at this event. His live rating is now 2707.3, making him currently the world no.31. When he breaks into top 30, it will be the first time India will have six players in world top 30. The boy is carrying all the momentum and great form heading towards the important FIDE World Cup 2023. Magnus Carlsen's inspirational words at the Tech Mahindra Global Chess League surely boosted Praggnanandhaa's confidence. Vishy Anand being on his side at WACA is a huge boost too. Giga Quparadze wins 7th Batumi Municipality Cup Open 2023, Aradhya Garg second

GM Giga Quparadze (GEO), FM Aradhya Garg and IM Vahe Danielyan (ARM) scored 6.5/9 each at 7th International Chess Festival - Batumi Municipality Cup 2023 Open A (≥ 2200). Giga won the tournament due to better tie-breaks. Aradhya and Vahe were placed second and third respectively. IM-elect Aradhya gained a valuable 23.4 Elo rating points. He needs to touch 2400 in the live ratings to become India's latest IM. The total prize fund of the entire festival was 50250 GEL. The top three prizes in the Open A were 7000, 4000 and 3000 GEL each respectively. Praggnanandhaa on the verge of winning V Géza Hetényi Memorial 2023

17-year-old R Praggnanandhaa continues his good form from Tech Mahindra Global Chess League. He crossed 2700 in the live ratings when he beat Parham Maghsoodloo in the second round on 12th July at V Géza Hetényi Memorial 2023. The teenager won the next two games before suffering his first loss against M Amin Tabatabaei. Immediately in the following round, he bounced back with a victory against Peter Prohaszka. The next two games ended in draws against Pavel Eljanov and Maxim Matlakov. Praggnanandhaa needs a draw in the last round against Poland no.2 Radoslaw Wojtaszek to become a clear champion.
