Abhimanyu Puranik clinches 40th Cappelle la Grande Open 2024 with a 2686 performance

GM Abhimanyu Puranik and GM Lorenzo Lodici (ITA) scored 7.5/9 each at 40th Cappelle la Grande Open 2024. Abhimanyu won the tournament due to better tie-breaks, Lorenzo was placed second. Nine players scored 7/9 each. Out of them, IM Alberto Barp (ITA) secured third place. The total prize fund in the Open tournament was €12000. The top three prizes were €2000 + trophy, €1500 and €1200 each respectively. This is Abhimanyu's third rating tournament triumph of the year. Earlier, he won 33rd Keres Memorial Blitz Open 2024 in January. The 21st Bangkok Chess Club Open starts one month from today on 13th April 2024. The tournament has received a fantastic response. A total of 251 players from 50 countries across the world have registered in Open and Challengers section. A total of 18 GMs, 20 IMs, 4 WGMs and 10 WIMs have confirmed their participation. Kushagra Mohan wins 20th Tamil Nadu IM-norm Closed Circuit 2024

IM Kushagra Mohan and IM Anton Sitnikov (UKR) scored 7/9 each at 20th Tamil Nadu IM-norm Closed Circuit Chess Tournament 2024. Kushagra won the tournament as he defeated Anton in the penultimate round. The direct encounter tie-break went in favor of Kushagra, Anton was placed second. IM David Gochelashvili scored sole 6.5/9 to finish third. The six-day ten-player round-robin tournament was organized by Tamil Nadu Chess Association at Hotel Alankar Grande in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu from 27th February to 3rd March 2024. IIT Madras invites you to participate at 6th Shaastra Rapid Rating Open 2024

IIT Madras invites all chess players around the world in the sixth edition of Shaastra Rapid Rating Open 2024. It is scheduled to take place on 30th and 31st March 2024. This the only IIT which organizes an Open Rapid Rating tournament every year. This year the total prize fund is same as last year ₹500000 with the first prize being ₹65000. So far four GMs, ten IMs, two WGMs and a WIMs have already confirmed their participation from Australia, England, USA and various parts of India. Shyam Sundar M wins Prague International Chess Festival 2024 Rapid Open, Saravana Krishnan third

GM Shyam Sundar M and FM Jachym Nemek (CZE) scored an unbeaten 6.5/7 each at Prague International Chess Festival 2024 H Rapid Open. Shyam won the tournament due to better tie-breaks, Jachym had to settle for second place. Five players - IM P Saravana Krishnan, FM Nikoloz Chkhaidze (GEO), GM Stepan Zilka (CZE), FM Akaki Sharashenidze (CZE) and Levente Miszler (HUN) scored 6/7 each. They were placed third to seventh according to tie-breaks. The top three prizes were 3000, 2000 and 1500 each respectively. Velammal AICF Round Robin Women Grand Master Tournament to be held in Chennai

Once again, an important event is set to take place in Chennai, known as the capital of Indian chess. This time, the event will be held in the form of the Round Robin Women Grand Master Tournament. In this tournament, a total of 11 classical matches will be played on a round-robin basis between five foreign women title players from Mongolia, Serbia, France, Italy, and Colombia, and seven Indian women players. Velpula Sarayu of India will be the top-seeded player of the competition. This competition, with a prize money of Rs 10 lakh, will be played from March 18 to March 25. 57th Biel Chess Festival 2024: Registrations are now open!

The 57th edition of Biel Chess Festival is set to start from Saturday 13th July 2024. Apart from two GMT (Grandmaster Triathlon) events, there will be a ten round MTO (Master Tournament) for players rated 1900+, ATO (Amateur Tournament) for players rated below 2000. The barrier for MTO has been lowered to 1900 which allows players rated 1900 and 2000 to choose between MTO and ATO. There are also going to be several other events including Rapid, Blitz and Chess960 events. Indian players did quite well last year in MTO and Rapid. Aditya Samant became India's 83rd Grandmaster. Sushanth Kamabathula wins 1st Festival du Manoir Hotel Touquet Golf Resort Open 2024

Sushanth Kamabathula and WGM Nino Maisuradze (FRA) scored an unbeaten 4.5/5 each at 1st Festival du Manoir Hotel Touquet Golf Resort Open 2024. Sushanth won the tournament due to better tie-breaks, Nino secured second place. Nicolas Laposte (FRA) scored 3.5/5 to finish third. Sushanth drew against the top seed and sole WGM taking part in the event in the third round. The total prize fund in the Master Tournament was €1200. The first prize was €350 and a trophy. This is Sushanth's first rating tournament triumph of his career. The new executive of the All India Chess federation has been elected unopposed

The result of the election for new office bearers of the All India Chess federation for the tenure of 2024 to 2027 has been declared today by former Justice of the Allahabad High Court, Rang Nath Pandey, and former Justice of the Delhi High Court, SS Sistani. It was already decided that the election of the All India Chess Association would be unopposed when only 15 names remained for the 15 available posts on March 4 for withdrawal of nominations. With this, the All India Chess Federation has become the new sports association implementing the National Sports Code. Among the key office bearers, Nitin Narang of Haryana has been elected as President, Dev Ajay Patel of Gujarat has been elected as Secretary, and International adjudicator Dharmendra Kumar of Bihar has been elected for the post of Treasurer. Sammed Jaykumar Shete wins 1st G H Raisoni Memorial Amravati Rapid Rating Open 2024

IM Sammed Jaykumar Shete, GM Sankalp Gupta, Aakash Sharadchandra Dalvi and IM Arghyadip Das scored 8/9 each at 1st G H Raisoni Memorial Amravati Rapid Rating Open 2024. Sammed won the tournament due to better tie-breaks, Sankalp, Aakash and Arghyadip were placed second to fourth respectively. Sammed, Aakash and Arghyadip remained undefeated. Sammed defeated the top seed Sankalp in the sixth round. He also drew against Aakash and Arghyadip. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹200000. The top three prizes were ₹50000 + trophy, ₹30000 and ₹20000 each respectively. The one-day rapid rating tournament was organized by G H Raisoni Sports and Cultural Foundation, and Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation on 25th February 2024 at G H Raisoni University in Amravati, Maharashtra. Mitrabha Guha dominates Armageddon Challenge, Laxman second and Jval third

We have seen tournaments of many chess variants. But have you heard about Armageddon chess tournament? Chess Federation of Sri Lanka organized a one-day Sri Lanka Chess Classic (Armageddon Chess Challenge) tournament on 23rd February, a day before the rest day of Commonwealth Championships 2023-24. Every game is Armageddon which means White must win and Black needs just a draw to win the match. Time is also same as usual - 5 minutes for white against 4 minutes for black. GM Mitrabha Guha won the tournament with a perfect 7/7. Four players - GM Laxman R R, Jval Saurin Patel, FM Villanueva Nelson (PHI) and WCM K M Dahamdi Sanudula (SRI) scored 6/7 each. They secured second to fifth place according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was RM700. This was Mitrabha's fourth tournament triumph in 2024. Praggnanandhaa and Vaishali will feature at 57th Biel Chess Festival GMT 2024

GM R Praggnanandhaa and GM R Vaishali have participated in the Master Tournament of the historic Biel Chess Festival in 2021. For the first time in their career, the FIDE Candidates 2024 siblings will play in the Grandmaster Tournament (GMT) in Masters and Challengers section. Both sections will feature six players who will battle in Classical, Rapid and Blitz events. After the players have faced each other in all three formats, the top four in each Masters and Challengers will play against each other in Classical time controls with reversed colors. This is a new addition to the 57th edition of Biel GMT. Masters: Praggnanandhaa, Vincent Keymer (GER), Liem Quang Le (VIE), Javokhir Sindarov (UZB), Haik Martirosyan (ARM) and Abhimanyu Mishra (USA).
