Zero Fees, Zero Prizes: The Movement Changing Kerala Chess
Great movements often begin with a simple question: What if every aspiring player, irrespective of financial background, had an opportunity to experience serious classical chess? That was the question that gave 1st Chess For Everyone by Premier Chess Academy. When the inaugural edition took place in Thiruvananthapuram back in March 2026, it felt like a bold experiment. A FIDE-rated classical tournament with exactly ₹0 entry fee and ₹0 cash prize. Premier Chess Academy is coming up with its 2nd Chess for Everyone tournament from 20th to 23rd August. Read more about this initiative.
The Idea
The 1st Chess for Everyone by Premier Chess Academy completely reversed the traditional chess model; instead of forcing young players to travel far and spend heavily to secure a FIDE rating, International Grandmasters and Masters were brought right to Kerala to play across the board from them.
The Success Story

The tournament drew 194 players from 11 countries, including 2 Grandmasters and 5 International Masters. While IM Rahul Sangma clinched the historic first title with an unbeaten 7/8 score, the real victory belonged to the ecosystem. Children gained international ratings for the first time, and around 40 new rating holders were made because of this tournament.

Young players tested their nerves under true tournament pressure, and local talents rubbed shoulders with veteran titleholders like GM Petr Kiriakov. It proved that talent is universal, but opportunity is not.

Now What?
Now, Premier Chess Academy is turning that one-time experiment into a sustained movement. Backed by official event codes from the All India Chess Federation and FIDE, the initiative is officially returning with three brand-new editions under the broader banner of Vision 2000+ Kerala.

Schedule

Vision 2000+ Kerala
This series is part of a deliberate, long-term roadmap by Premier Chess Academy to structurally lift the rating ceiling in the region. By regularly organizing high-quality classical-rated events locally, the initiative opens a door that was previously closed to many due to the steep financial realities of travel and stay. It is a reminder that champions aren't created by prize money. They are built through access to fierce competition, tournament resilience, and an equal seat at the board.
