Shankhadeep Maity wins ₹4,50,000 at 17th KIIT International Chess Festival Cat-B
Shankhadeep Maity scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 points to win the 17th KIIT International Chess Festival 2026 (Category 'B' Below-1900). Shankhadeep finished a clear point ahead of 10 players who scored 7.5/9 points. Samarth Jain and Satyam Sarbajit Mishra secured 2nd and 3rd place according to tiebreak scores. Shankhadeep's Biggest Triumph of His Career
The feeling of winning a chess tournament is always special, and it gets even better when the stakes are high and you deliver. Shankhadeep Maity scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 points. He was on a perfect 8/8 points and a clear point ahead of the field. The last round pressure was real, but he managed to handle it and drew his last game to become the clear champion.
A total of 688 players took part in this event from 5 different countries. The time control was 60 minutes with a 30-second increment from move 1.
