FIDE Rating list August 2026: Arjun and Humpy in World Top 10

The August 2026 FIDE rating list sees Arjun Erigaisi and Koneru Humpy as India’s only representatives in the World Top 10. India has 14 players in the Open Top 100 and ten in the Women’s Top 100, with several notable rating changes following tournaments in July. Praggnanandhaa, Aravindh Chithambaram, Raunak Sadhwani and Savitha Shri made significant gains in the rapid and blitz formats. India also retained the World No. 2 position among the top federations in the Open, Women’s and Mixed categories.

Open: Fourteen Indians in the Top 100

In the August 2026 FIDE rating list, Arjun Erigaisi is the only Indian in the top 10 in the Open category. The 14 Indians in the top 100 are: Arjun Erigaisi (World no. 9), Praggnanandhaa R (World no. 12), Viswanathan Anand (World no. 13), Nihal Sarin (World no. 25), Gukesh D (World no. 31), Vidit Gujrathi (World no. 33), Aravindh Chithambaram (World no. 42), Pranesh M (World no. 44), Pranav V (World no. 45), Murali Karthikeyan (World no. 48), Pentala Harikrishna (World no. 59), Raunak Sadhwani (World no. 80), Aryan Chopra (World no. 87) and Leon Luke Mendonca (World no. 95).

Praggnanandhaa’s rapid rating increased by 11 points to 2701 after the GCT Rapid in Croatia, while his classical and blitz ratings remain unchanged.

Women: Ten Indians in the Top 100

Currently, there are eight Indian women in the world's top 100. They are: Koneru Humpy (World No. 8), Divya Deshmukh (World No. 13), R Vaishali (World No. 14), Harika Dronavalli (World No. 21), Vantika Agrawal (World No. 47), Aamuktha Guntaka (World no. 62), Savitha Shri B (World No. 65), Shubhi Gupta (World no. 79), Rakshitta Ravi (World no. 87) and Padmini Rout (World No. 88).

Koneru Humpy did not play any tournaments in July. Her rating remained unchanged.

Harika Dronavalli won double gold at the Asian Women Blitz Chess Championship 2026. Her rating from the event will be reflected in the September 2026 list.

Aamuktha Guntaka’s classical rating increased by 25 points to 2376 after the Šahovsko Ljeto IM RR.

India continues to hold the World No. 2 position in terms of the average rating of the top ten players in the Open category. India is behind the USA by 18 Elo points.

The picture is similar in the women's section, where India remains second in the world. China continues to lead the standings, with a 67-point advantage over the Indian squad.
