Ashutosh Banerjee Wins 4th Gujarat GM Below 2000 Rating 2026

Ashutosh Banerjee scored 8.5/10 points to win the 4th Gujarat International Open Grandmasters Chess Tournament-2026 (Category B - Below 2000). Vivek Sharma and Shreyas Ghadi also scored 8.5/10 points to secure 2nd and 3rd place according to tiebreak scores. The tournament was held at Veer Savarkar Sports Complex, Ahmedabad, from 1st to 4th June 2026. The total prize fund was ₹15,00,000 with the top 3 prizes of ₹1,25,000, ₹1,00,000, and ₹80,000. Comeback of Top-Seed

Top Seed Ashutosh Banerjee suffered a tough loss in the 2nd round itself against Mukesh Mandloi, but after his loss, he came back and scored 6 wins in a row, drew the 9th game, and won the last game to win the tournament. In the final round, Ashutosh Banerjee, Vivek Sharma, and Shreyas Ghadi all scored a win with white pieces to reach 8.5/10.
