All India Civil Services Chess Tournament 2025 - Chennai Team, Utkal Ranjan Sahoo are Champions

The All India Civil Services Chess Tournament was organized by the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs, Government of Goa, in collaboration with All India Civil Services at the Multipurpose Sports Complex, Pedem, Mapusa, North Goa. The event comprised four events: Individual Men, Individual Women, Team Men & Team Women; Two of which were FIDE-rated. RSB Chennai won the Men's Team event while Kerala won the team event in the Women's Category. Utkal Ranjan Sahoo of RSB Bhubaneswar won the Individual event in Men, remaining unbeaten, while Amrutha S of RSB Mumbai became champion in the Individual Women category.

The All India Civil Services Chess Tournament was organized by Directorate of Sports & youth Affairs, Govt of Goa in Collaboration with All India Civil Services at Multipurpose Sports Complex Pedem Mapusa North Goa. Shri. Suneel Anchipaka, IAS Secetary (Sports & Youth Affairs), inaugurated the event on 21st by lighting the lamp and making the 1st move on the chess board in the presence of Shri Arvind Kutkar ( Director Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs ), Shri Ram Ranjan Singh ( Convenor AICS Tournament), Dr Vivek Pawar ( Dy Director DSYA), Mrs Antoneta Pinto ( Nodal Officer AICS tournament), IA Arvind Mhamal ( Chief Arbiter) in the presence of other dignitaries.

The team event for Men and Women was played from 21st to 24th May. This was the first time that the Civil Services tournament in the Men’s Category was a FIDE rating event. A total of 187 players participated in the Men’s category, while 101 players competed in the Women’s category. Tournament also had 2 International Masters, 1 FIDE Master, and 4 Candidate Masters. One Specially abled players - Prachurya Kumar Pradhan from Odisha also took part in this tournament.

Organizers ( Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs) took utmost care by providing a good playing AC Hall. They also provided tea and snacks to the players during the rounds. It was a well-organized tournament.

The Results of these events are as follows:

1. Team Event -Men:

Winning team of AICS Chess Tournament 2025 - RSB Chennai

The RSB Chennai team won the team Championship by scoring 11 match points, RSB Indore team finished second with 10 Match points, while GNCT New Delhi settled at 3rd place with 9 Match points. Medals were given to the winners as well as board prizes for all 6 boards, 1 medal each for veteran & Best Men ( above 55) were distributed.

2. Women's Team :

Kerala team won the team Championship by scoring 11 match points, while the Chhattisgarh team & Central Secretariate, New Delhi finished 2nd and 3rd respectively with 9 Match points each. Medals were given to the winners as well as board prizes for all 6 boards, 1 medal each for veteran & Best Women ( above 55) were distributed.

3. Individual Men:

Champion - Utkal Ranjan Sahoo with unbeaten 8/9

Sahoo Utkal Ranjan of RSB Bhubaneshwar won the individual Men's event with a score of 8 points from 9 rounds. Peter Anand of Puducherry finished as 1st runners up with 7.5 points, while Shailendra Bajpai of RSB Kanpur was declared 2nd runners up.

4. Individual Women:

Amrutha S of RSB Mumbai won the individual Women's event with 8 points from 9 rounds. Sheena A of Kerala finished as 1st runner-up, while Swapnajyoti of RSB Kanpur was declared 2nd runner-up.

5. Best Veteran in Men:

Sanjeev Kumar of RSB Mumbai with 6.5 points .

6. Best Veteran in Women:

Padmaja Nayudu Chauhan of M P Secretariate with 5.5 points
