World Junior 2023 R1-5: Rakshitta and Yip at the top
WGM Rakshitta Ravi defeated WFM Alessia-Mihaela Ciolacu (ROU) to maintain her lead with IM Carissa Yip (USA) at World Junior 2023 Girls. Both of them are at 4.5/5 each. They will inevitably face each other in the sixth round. In the Open section, GM Marc`Andria Maurizzi (ITA) is the sole leader 4.5/5. He is followed by 16 players at 4/5 each. GM Pranav Anand and IM Dushyant Sharma are the only two Indians among them. Dushyant will face IM Nikolozi Kacharava (GEO) and Pranav will be up against IM Kirk Ghazarian (USA) in Round 6. WGM Rakshitta Ravi (2272) had practical chances against WFM Alessia-Mihaela Ciolacu (ROU, 2199) in the bishop and knight vs double bishop and extra pawn.
White wanted to restore balance in terms of number of pawns 53.Nxc5?? However, self-pinning the knight only harmed White. 53...Bf3! in one move, Black managed to fix both White's knight and king. 54.Bc2 a5 55.Ba4 Be1? removing the pin did not help Black. She just needed to bring her king to capture the g-pawn as there was no way for White to get out of the pin without losing material or the game.
