Wilson Guillermo Palencia Morales clear first at 39th Tamil Nadu IM-norm Closed Circuit RR 2025

IM Wilson Guillermo Palencia Morales (COL) scored an unbeaten 7/9 to win 39th Tamil Nadu IM-norm Closed Circuit Chess Tournament 2025. He finished a full point ahead of the competition. IM Jorge Marcos Gomez Sanchez (CUB) scored sole 6/9 to secure second place. IM Diasmany Otero Acosta (CUB) and Hari Ganesh T scored 5/9 each. They secured third and fourth place respectively according to tie-breaks. The seven-day ten-player round-robin tournament was organized by Tamil Nadu State Chess Association at Hotel Alankar Grande in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu from 8th to 14th December 2025. No tie-breaks needed for top two

The 39th Tamil Nadu IM-norm Closed Circuit Chess Tournament sponsored by Sakthi Group started on 8th December 2025 and concluded on 14th December 2025 at Hotel Alankar Grande, Coimbatore, the official Hotel for the Tamil Nadu IM-norm closed circuit chess tournament.

At the prize distribution function GM elect IM V S Rathanvel was the Chief Guest and distributed the prizes in presence of Dr. M Manickam, Chairman, Sakthi Group and President of Tamil Nadu State Chess Associaiton. Vice Presidents of TNSCA - Proffesor R Anantharam, Mr. V Vijayaraghavan, were also present at the function. Mr. K Dhanasekar, Secretary, CDCA proposed vote of thanks.

 

The Chief Guest - Mr. K Sundararaj, Additional Superintendent of Police, Coimbatore, Winner of President of India Medal in the year 2020 and CM Anna Medal for the best Vigilance Officer 2008, had inaugurated the event. Mr. Vijayakumar, Havildar, Defence, Coimbatore,  TNSCA Vice Presidents, Prof. R. Anantharam, and Mr. V. Vijayaraghavan, were also present at the Inauguration.

R Srivatsan is a Category A level International Arbiter, Member of Arbiter Commission in both All India Chess Federation and Tamil Nadu State Chess Association. He was also the Tournament Coordinator for 23rd, 30th and 39th Tamil Nadu IM-norm Closed Circuit Chess Tournament 2025.
