Blind Premier 2018 R04: Kishan Gangolli gunning for his fifth straight title!

by Sagar Shah - 06/02/2018

These are the initial days of the National Premier Blind 2018. Just four rounds have been completed and we already have a sole leader - top seed Kishan Gangolli, who is on 4.0/4. You might think he is Bengali because of his surname, but the lad comes from Shimoga in Karnataka and is one of the most accomplished blind players that Indian chess has ever seen. We bring you some very interesting pictures and moments from the single round day. As the round ended in the morning, the players indulged in a blitz session as well! Blind players playing blitz is never easy, but we have found out that nothing is impossible for these 14 individuals! And yes, the total contribution for this event has reached Rs.429,053! Amazing indeed!

If there is one player out of the 14 who I think is extremely strong and competent to give even 2200+ visioned opponents a run for their money, it has to be Kishan Gangolli.

Kishan won his game against Diptyajeet De when in the middlegame, the Kolkata boy missed some tactics:

Aryan Joshi made a quick draw against Yudhajeet De. In the final position when the threefold repetition occurred Yudhajeet was clearly better, but he was satisfied with a draw.

Prachurya Kumar Pradhan is beating his opponents with minimal issues. In the fourth round he played an excellent game againstMari Muthu and emerged as the winner. This game should serve as a model one for all Bogo Indian aficionados.

Soundarya Kumar Pradhan lost his first game of the tournament, but since then has been in good form and won 3.0/4. He beat Shirish Patil in the fourth round

Father of Soundarya and Prachurya Rabi Ranjan Pradhan is taking care of the live broadcast by making the moves on the DGT boards

Subhendu Kumar Patra won the best game of the day prize after beating Gaurav Gadodia

Madhu Priyatam is doing an excellent job by scheduling shows on Radio Chess and taking care of the PR of the event

In the evening Amruta played a blitz event that was organized for fun. She played with a blindfold around her eyes. Just to give you an idea of the strength of the players - Amruta didn't win a single game. Although more than visualization her problem was putting the pieces in their appropriate holes on the braille board!

Niklesh Jain is ensuring that the tournament gets maximum eyeballs in the Hindi speaking audience

The food is free of cost for all players and is quite delicious

A lot like home made food!

One of the best ways to celebrate your fourth wedding anniversary!

You must just see the chief arbiter Manjunatha zooming around in time pressure telling the time that is left on the players' clock!
