Meylis Annaberdiyev wins 9th Mersin Metropolitan Municipality International Open 2025

GM Meylis Annaberdiyev (TKM) and IM Arash Tahbaz (IRI) scored 7/9 each at 9th Mersin Metropolitan Municipality International Chess Tournament 2025. Meylis won the tournament on tie-breaks, Arash secured second place. GM Aryan Gholami (IRI) scored sole 6.5/9 to finish third. The total prize fund was Turkish Lira 905000. The prize fund in Category A was 617500. The top three prizes were 150000, 110000 and 90000 along with a medal each. IM Bala Chandra Prasad Dhulipalla was the sole Indian taking part in the event. Organized in cooperation with the Mersin Metropolitan Municipality and the Turkish Chess Federation, the 9th Mersin Metropolitan Municipality International Chess Tournament has concluded with an official award ceremony.

The tournament brought together participants of all ages—from 7 to 70—and featured strong international representation. A total of 360 players, including 44 foreign competitors from 19 countries and 31 titled players, took part in the event. Throughout the competition, a total prize pool of 905,500 TRY was distributed to participants.

 

The tournament was held in four categories, and the champions are as follows:

A Category — GM Meylis Annaberdiyev

B Category — Can Yardımcı

C Category — Ufuk Atbaş

D Category — Seren Demirok
