India bags 11 medals at Asian Amateur 2024

India has won a total of eleven medals at Asian Amateur Chess Championships 2024. Eight Indians won all those eleven medals in various categories. Sananda R won Gold in Under-1700 Women in all three events - Classical, Rapid and Blitz. Ruhani Raj Asudani won Silver in Rapid and Bronze in Blitz. Farhaan M won Gold in Under-1700 Men Classical. Aryan Raj clinched Gold in Under-1700 Men Rapid, Omkar Shelke secured Silver. Maharth Godhani earned Silver in Blitz Under-1700 Men. Smaraki Mohanty got Bronze in Under-2000 Women. Sriiyukthaa Marksim Karki Abirami received Bronze in Under-1700 Women. The total prize fund of the tournament was US$ 25000. The top three prizes in Under-2000 Women, U1700 Men and Women were $1500, $1200 and $1000 along with a trophy and medal each.

Sananda wins three Golds

This was the most successful Asian Amateur tournament for India in recent memory. Eight Indians earned a total of eleven medals. Out of them, Sananda R managed to win three Golds in all three formats - Classical, Rapid and Blitz in Under-1700 Women category. Farhaan M and Aryan Raj are the two more Gold medal winners in Under-1700 Men Classical and Rapid events respectively. Ruhani Raj Asudani won a Silver and Bronze each in Under-1700 Men Rapid and Blitz respectively. The prizes for Rapid and Blitz events were - $600, $400 and $300 for Men, $500, $400 and $300.

Classical: U1700 Men - Gold

Farhaan M and Ateeq Alremaeithi Abdulla (UAE) scored 7/9 each in Under-1700 Men category in Classical format. Farhaan won Gold due to better tie-break scores, Ateeq Silver. He also defeated the eventual Silver medalist in the fifth round. Bonuonuo Gong (CHN) got Bronze 6/9.

Farhaan M scored an unbeaten 7/9, won the tournament on tie-breaks and gained 25.2 Elo rating points

U1700 Women - Gold and Silver

11th National Amateur U1700 Women Runner-up, top seed Sananda R scored 7.5/9 to clinch Gold in Under-1700 Women category. She finished a half point ahead of the rest. The reigning National Amateur U1700 Women champion, Ruhani Raj Asudani scored 7/9 to secure Silver. Sananda defeated Ruhani in Round 7. Nursaya Zhumabek (KAZ) got Bronze scoring 6.5/9. She was the only one who managed to beat the eventual Gold medalist, Sananda in the sixth round.
