Koneru Humpy knocks out Tingjie Lei to qualify to her first FIDE Women's World Cup Final
GM Koneru Humpy defeated GM Tingjie Lei (CHN) 5-3 to advance to the Finals of the FIDE Women's World Cup 2025. This is the first time she qualified to a Women's World Cup Final. After two draws in the 15'+10" Rapid games, Tingjie struck by winning the first 10'+10" Rapid. Humpy won the must-win second 10'+10" Rapid. She continued her momentum by winning the next two 5'+3" Blitz games to win the match and secure her place in the Final. With this win, she has secured that India will win the Women's World Cup. India is guaranteed to win the FIDE Women's World Cup, Who exactly will be decided in the next few days
The Semifinal win has been historic for GM Koneru Humpy for a multitude of reasons. For the first time ever, two Indians will battle for the World Cup. This will also mark the first time an Indian will win the FIDE Women's World Cup and also secure the second place. Humpy along with Divya has qualified to the Women's Candidates 2026. Humpy is the reigning World Rapid Women's champion. She could very become the Women's World Cup winner on Sunday or Monday.
10'+10" Game 2: Humpy - Tingjie: 1-0
After a draw in the first two 15'+10" Rapid games, GM Koneru Humpy (2446) lost the first 10'+10" Rapid game. She struck back by winning the must-win second 10'+10" Rapid game against GM Tingjie Lei (CHN, 2499).
Humpy (2418) won the next two 5'+3" Blitz tie-break games against Tingjie (2490) to win the match and secure her place in the Finals.
