Gukesh, Arjun Erigaisi and Praggnanandhaa maintain their position in World top ten
The ranking among the men did not see a major change as most of them played Freestyle event. It is not FIDE rated. However, very few played Bundesliga games which did not affect their rating much. The World Champion remains at World no.3 position for the third consecutive FIDE rating list. Seven Indians are still in top 30. GM Nihal Sarin, GM Raunak Sadhwani and GM Karthikeyan Murali gained 5.7, 7.3 and 7.2 Elo rating points each. GM Koneru Humpy returned to World no.5 among women after winning the FIDE Pune GP. IM Divya Deshmukh also returned to her previous rank of World no.19 among women after finishing third at the aforementioned event. There she increased her rating by 9.2 points. Gukesh retains World no.3 for the third consecutive month
Currently, there are three Indians in World top 10, same as the last two month. The gap of average rating between the top two federations - USA and India got reduced to only three now in the Open section.
Women: Humpy returns to World no.5
Four Indian women are in top 20. They are - GM Koneru Humpy, World no.5, GM Harika Dronavalli, World no.14, GM R Vaishali, World no.16 and IM Divya Deshmukh, World no.19 among women. Humpy gained 15. Elo rating points by winning FIDE Pune GP. Divya added 9.2 Elo rating points by finishing third at the same event. There are still nine Indians among the top 100 women.

India retains the no.2 position in May 2025 FIDE Rating list in terms of average rating of top ten players in the Open, only 3 Elo rating points behind the USA. The gap got reduced to 3 in May 2025 FIDE Rating list.
