SuperChess clinches 40th European Club Cup with a perfect score, Alkaloid second and Novy Bor third

SuperChess won 40th European Club Cup 2025 Open with a perfect score 14/14. Tuxera Aquaprofit Nagykanizsai Sakk Klub lost to the eventual winner by 2.5-3.5. Alkaloid defeated Rishon Le Zion #1 by 4.5-2.5 to finish second for the second consecutive year. The defending champion, Novy Bor won against Vugar Gashimov by 1.5-4.5 to finish third. Cercle d'échecs de Monte-Carlo won 29th European Club Cup Women by splitting the point with Turkish Airlines sports club. They scored 13/14. Sirmium Sremska Mitrovica lost to SuperChess 1.5-2.5, still they secured second place. The reigning champion, Tajfun SK Ljubljana drew against CE Gambit Bonnevoie to finish third. Cercle d'échecs de Monte-Carlo victorious in the Women, Tajfun SK Ljubljana third

This has been the most successful European Club Cup in terms of Indian players. Both winning team had an Indian player each - World Champion, GM D Gukesh for SuperChess in Open and Women's World Cup winner, GM Divya Deshmukh for Cercle d'échecs de Monte-Carlo in Women. Not only that, in Open section, all podium finishing teams had a minimum of one Indian player whereas in the Women's event both champion and second runner-up had one Indian player. Apart from that, four individual Gold medals were clinched by Indian players - three in Open and one in Women. Among them was the debutant - GM Abhimanyu Puranik.

Open: Tuxera Aquaprofit Nagykanizsai Sakk Klub - SuperChess: 2.5-3.5

The World Champion, GM D Gukesh (2752) drew his final round game against GM Vladimir Fedoseev (2752). GM Alexey Sarana (2661) and GM Bogdan-Daniel Deac (2655) scored the crucial victories which helped the team to win the match and finish with a perfect score 14/14.

Alkaloid - Rishon Le Zion #1: 4.5-1.5

GM Wei Yi (2754), GM Aleksandar Indjic (2618) and GM Abhimanyu Puranik (2615) won their respective games against GM Maxim Rodshtein (2647), GM Evgeny Zanan (2504) and IM Or Bronstein (2460). The remaining three games ended in draws. Among them, GM Arjun Erigaisi (2773) and GM Aravindh Chithambaram (2711) drew against GM Boris Gelfand (2636) and GM Yahli Sokolovsky (2539) respectively.

Vugar Gashimov - Novy Bor: 1.5-4.5

GM Vincent Keymer (2755), GM Pentala Harikrishna (2697) and GM David Anton Guijarro (2631) scored the decisive victories for Novy Bor. The remaining three games ended in draws. GM Vidit Gujrathi (2716) drew against GM Aydin Suleymanli (2614).

Women: Turkish Airlines sports club - Cercle d'échecs de Monte-Carlo: 2-2

All four games ended in draws as a draw was enough for Cercle d'échecs de Monte-Carlo to become a clear champion. GM Divya Deshmukh was rested in this round.

Prizes

The total prize fund is €40000, €26000 in Open and €14000 in Women. The top three prizes in Open are - €8000, €6000 and €4000. For Women, they are - €5500, €3500 and €2000. Individual board prizes on each board €500.

Schedule

Every day round starts at 3 p.m. local time, 5:30 p.m. IST from 19th to 24th October 2025. The final round on 25th October starts 2 p.m. local time, 4:30 p.m. IST. The seven-round Swiss system tournament has a time control of 90 minutes for 40 moves plus 30 minutes for the rest of the game with an increment of 30 seconds per move, starting from move one. The tournament will be held in Rhodes, Greece.
