Action resumed at the 59th Biel Chess Festival as the four qualified finalists in the Masters Triathlon and Three Generations Challenge kicked off their final classical round-robin phase. With 12 massive classical points up for grabs across the final three rounds, Tuesday witnessed Levon Aronian defending his tournament lead after drawing against Le Quang Liem. Masters Triathlon: Aronian Defends Lead; Peace at the Top

The main matchup of Round 6 saw tournament leader Levon Aronian take on three-time Biel champion Le Quang Liem. Trailing by 5.5 points entering the final stage, Le Quang needed a decisive victory with the white pieces to reignite his hopes for a fourth Biel crown. However, Aronian demonstrated pristine opening preparation, giving the Vietnamese Grandmaster zero tactical chances to press. The resulting peace offer left Le’s title defense on thin ice.

On the adjacent board, the two young chasing prodigies Azerbaijan's Aydin Suleymanli and Turkey's Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus battled out a tough draw. A win for either player would have put immense pressure on Aronian, but both were forced to share the points.

Generations Challenge: Finek Draws Closer to the Trophy

Czech prodigy Vaclav Finek continued his steady march toward the Generations Challenge title. Holding a commanding lead, the 16-year-old comfortably drew against France's Marco Materia in 36 moves. The draw officially eliminated Materia from overall title contention. Finek now holds a 4.5-point lead over his closest challenger, Xiao Tong. For Xiao to pull off an impossible comeback, he must win both of his remaining matches, including a direct face-off against Finek in Thursday's final round.

Masters Open (MTO): Unstoppable Gloeckler Extends Lead to Full Point

In the Masters Open, 14-year-old German IM Christian Gloeckler extended his unbelievable run. Fresh off his Round 7 victory over India's IM Savitha Shri B, Gloeckler scored his third consecutive win in Round 8, defeating IM Cao Qingfeng. Undefeated after eight rounds (6 wins, 2 draws), Glöckler now holds a sole 1-point lead with 7/8. A chasing group of six players sits at 6/8, including GM Dimitris Alexakis, who will face Glöckler in a crucial Round 9 matchup.

Survival in the Triathlon requires mastering every speed. The points are weighted heavily to reward classical chess fightbacks:

Classical: Win = 4 points | Draw = 1½ points | Loss = 0 points
Rapid: Win = 2 points | Draw = 1 point | Loss = 0 points
Blitz: Win = 1 point | Draw = ½ point | Loss = 0 points
