Aronyak Ghosh wins Bengal FIDE rated Rapid tournament
It was a huge rapid event in Kolkata that was organized by Pioneer Chess School and West Bengal Chess Association. The tournament was held on the 8th and 9th of August with a time control of 25 minutes + 5 seconds increment. Youngster CM Aronyak Ghosh won the title and took back home the first prize of Rs.10,000! IM Somak Palit and Koustav Chatterjee also scored the same points but had to settle for second and third spot respectively on tiebreak. CM Aronyak Ghosh won 1st All Bengal FIDE Rated Rapid Chess Championship 2017 by scoring 8 points out of 9 rounds. Top seed IM Somak Palit and Koustav Chatterjee also scored 8 points but due to better tie break score CM Aronyak Ghosh became the champion. Aronyak led throughout the tournament. Both Aronyak and Somak remained undefeated, but unfortunately they did not face each other.
The tournament took place in Indian Council for Cultural Relations on 8th & 9th July 2017 in which 361 players participated over 10 districts across West Bengal. The number of participants was the highest for an Open Rapid Rating Tournament in West Bengal.
