GM Anna Muzychuk (UKR) drew with GM Zhongyi Tan (CHN) to maintain her sole lead at FIDE Grosslobming GP in Austria. After losing against Anna in the second round, GM Jiner Zhu (CHN) made a strong comeback by scoring a hat-trick with a victory over GM R Vaishali. GM Nana Dzagnidze (GEO) drew with GM Mariya Muzychuk (UKR). Dzagnidze, Jiner and Vaishali are now a full point behind the sole leader, Anna at 3/5 each. Superbet Classic R4: MVL joins Caruana and Praggnanandhaa at the top

R Praggnanandhaa drew against Bogdan-Daniel Deac (ROU) to maintain his lead at Grand Chess Tour Superbet Chess Classic 2025. Fabiano Caruana (USA) had an uneventful draw against Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB). In a battle of World Champions, World Blitz 2021 champion, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave prevailed over the reigning World Champion, D Gukesh. Thus, MVL joined Caruana and Praggnanandhaa in the lead 2.5/4. Ashutosh Kumar dominates Late Banwari Lal Agrawal Rapid Rating Open 2025

Ashutosh Kumar scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win Late Banwari Lal Agrawal Rapid Rating Open 2025. He finished a half point ahead of the field. Jayesh Mishra secured second place scoring 8/9. Aniket Ranjan scored sole 7.5/9 to finish third. The total prize fund was ₹51000. The top three prizes were ₹10000, ₹7000 and ₹5000 along with a trophy each. The two-day nine round Rapid rating tournament was  organized by Banka District Chess Association at Indoor Stadium in Banka, Bihar on 13th and 14th April 2025. GM Nana Dzagnidze (GEO) scored her first win of the event, handing GM Zhongyi Tan (CHN) her second consecutive loss of the event. Asian Individual 2025 R3: Srija Seshadri makes a perfect start

WGM Srija Seshadri defeated WGM Rakshitta Ravi to score a hat-trick at Asian Individual Women 2025. She is now one of the five women at 3/3. WGM Priyanka Nutakki had a great opportunity to win against GM Valentina Gunina. However, she missed it and eventually lost the game. IM Vantika Agrawal escaped with a draw against WCM Khisigbaatar Bayasgalan (MGL) who missed all of her winning chances. In the Men's event, GM Karthikeyan Murali, GM Prraneeth Vuppala and GM Pranesh M drew with GM Iniyan Pa, GM Xiangyu Xu (CHN) and IM Ilamparthi A R respectively. The former World Rapid champion made an incorrect decision by trading his dark-square bishop. The longterm lingering weakness caused him to concede the game. D Gukesh drew against Bogdan-Daniel Deac (ROU) after both player missed slim chances. Fabiano Caruana (USA) got the better of Alireza Firouzja (FRA) who went wrong in the endgame. Last chance to join FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Team Championships 2025 in London

The third edition of FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Team Championship will take place in London, England from 10th to 16th June 2025. A total of 12 Indians are slated to take part, as of now. Divya Deshmukh, Vidit Gujrathi, Vishy Anand, Sarbartho Mani, Srinath Narayanan, Arjun Erigaisi, Pentala Harikrishna, Pranav V, Atharvaa P Tayade, Leon Luke Mendonca, Hariharan Raghavan and Nihal Sarin will be representing their respective teams. The total prize fund in Rapid is €310000 an increase of 24% from the previous edition, for Blitz €190000, an increase of 90%. The top three prizes in Rapid are €110000, 70000 and 50000 each, for Blitz €75000, €50000 and €30000 each respectively. Last date of registration is 10th May. Asian Individual 2025 R2: Ilamparthi trounces Tabatabaei

IM Ilamparthi A R crushed the second seeded, GM M Amin Tabatabaei (IRI) in Round 2 of Asian Individual Men 2025. The former World Under-14 champion, launched a devastating attack on the kingside and did not allow his opponent to get back in the game. IM Srihari L R drew with the UAE no.1, GM Salem Saleh. GM Pranesh M, the reigning National Rapid 2025 champion, GM Iniyan Pa and GM Prraneeth Vuppala are also at 2/2 each. Superbet Classic R2: MVL and Deac bounce back

Levan Pantsulaia wins KCA God’s Own Country’s 1st GM Open 2025

GM Levan Pantsulaia (GEO) made another quick draw against IM Rajesh Vav to win KCA's God's Own Country's 1st GM Open 2025. IM Semetei Tologon Tegin (KGZ) defeated GM Alexei Fedorov to finish second. Both Levan and Semetei scored 8.5/10 each. However, Levan became champion due to better tie-break score, Semetei had to be content with the runner-up place. GM Karen H Grigoryan (ARM) drew with GM Manuel Petrosyan (ARM) to finish third 8/10. IM Rajesh Vav is the top Indian finisher 8/10. GM Deepan Chakkravarthy, IM Mehar Chinna Reddy C H and GM Laxman R R are the remaining three Indians to make a top ten finish. Asian Individual 2025 R1: Paulo Bersamina holds Nihal Sarin to a draw

Asian Individual Open and Women Chess Championship is back after skipping the previous edition in 2024. Why it did not take place or what happens to the qualification spots of that missing edition, is anybody's guess. GM Nihal Sarin is the top seed in the Men section. He was held to a draw by IM Paulo Bersamina (PHI) in the first round. IM Ameya Audi also shared the point with GM Abhimanyu Puranik. IM Lela Javakhishvili (GEO) made a miscalculation which allowed Vaishali to have a center passed pawn and a strong knight at e2. However, she let go of the pawn and the Georgian made another mistake a few moves later. It cost her an exchange and the game. Superbet Chess Classic 2025 is off to a great start. D Gukesh had R Praggnanandhaa on the ropes. However, he showed his resiliency and escaped the grasp of the World Champion.
