The final leg of the Grand Chess Tour has begun with bloodshed. The London Chess Classic's main event is the ten-player super tournament but also of importance is the FIDE Open that runs simultaneously. Nine players rated above 2600 are playing in the 247-player Open led by Azeri GM Eltaj Safarli and Frenchmen GM Etienne Bacrot and GM Laurent Fressinet. We bring you the games and details. What a start to the London Chess Classic! All the players came to the game in a fighting mood. Wesley So like he did in the Sinquefield Cup began with a win over birthday boy Hikaru Nakamura. Vladimir Kramnik was in his element as he dispatched Veselin Topalov and Michael Adams would be kicking himself at making a wrong king move after a well played game to lose to Levon Aronian. The Myanmar Chess Federation organized the Asian Seniors Championship 2016 from 27 October to 04 November at Hotel Hazel, Mandalay, Myanmar. The tournament was held in two categories — for players aged above 50 and 65. India's 69-year-old IM Wazeer Ahmad Khan won the gold in the 65+ category where 18 players competed. IM Chakravarthi Reddy M. won the GCA International FIDE Rating Open 2016 held from 25th to 30the November in Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh. The tournament was a ten-round swiss organized by Global Chess Academy with Rs. 2 lakhs prize fund. Quick Report.
Kunal M. won the TN State Level Rapid Tournament held at Sivakasi under the aegis of the Virudhnagar District Chess Association. The event was a seven-round swiss with twenty minutes per player. The prize fund was a cool Rs. 25000. Quick Report.

On 4th of December Timur Gareyev played against 48 opponents in a blindfold simul that lasted nearly 20 hours to set the world record in simultaneous blindfold chess. Miguel Najdorf's record of 45 opponents was broken by Mark Lang after 64 years in 2011 by playing 46 people. Timur went two steps ahead and challenged 48! He ended the simul with a staggering 35 wins. It was truly an exhibition of unbelievable human strength and stamina. Albert Silver tells you the tale of how it all transpired.
The popular Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, also known to her followers as Amma, passed away in Chennai. She was one of the most powerful leaders from India and was instrumental in bringing the World Championship to this country, a match that saw Anand step down to allow Magnus to begin a new era. She passed away at the age of 68 at Apollo Hospital in Chennai after struggling with health related issues for three months. She was a believer in the power of chess and introduced the game as a compulsory activity in all schools in Tamil Nadu, making her state an intellectual powerhouse.
