Over 360 children are taking part at 36th National Under-9 Open and Girls Chess Championships 2023. Round 9 starts today from 1:30 p.m. IST. Seraikela Kharsawan District Chess Association is organizing the tournaments at The Wave International in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. The seven-day eleven-round Swiss league Rating tournaments have a total prize fund ₹500000, ₹250000 in Boys and Girls section each. The top three prizes are ₹50000, ₹36000 and ₹30000 each. Safin Safarullakhan (KER), Rahul Ramakrishnan (TN), Narendra Agarwal (WB) in the Open, Sharvaanica A S (TN), Samhita Pungavanam (TN) and Aaradhya Upadhyay (RAJ) in the Girls are the top seeds. Grand Swiss 2023 R8: Caruana, Esipenko and Deac join Vidit in a four-way lead

GM Vidit Gujrathi made a 16-move quick draw against GM Hikaru Nakamura (USA) in the eighth round of FIDE Grand Swiss 2023. The result allowed GM Fabiano Caruana (USA), GM Andrey Esipenko and GM Bogdan-Daniel Deac (ROU) to catch up with Vidit in the lead 6/8. GM Arjun Erigaisi once again missed a good opportunity against GM Yuriy Kuzubov (UKR). While it was not a definite win unlike the last round, he had a promising position. GM R Praggnanandhaa would be disappointed after grinding a relatively balanced rook endgame for seven hours and 127 moves. Aditya Mittal triumphs at Pavlodar Open 2023 with a 2722 performance

GM Aditya Mittal scored an unbeaten 8/10 to win Pavlodar Open 2023. He also made the exact same score few months when he won Astana Zhuldyzdary International Chess Festival Open A 2023. The 16-year-old finished a half point ahead of a strong field which featured 14 more GMs from all over the world. He performed at 2722 and gained 18.4 Elo rating points. GM Mihail Nikitenko and GM Dmitry Bocharov scored 7.5/10 each. They were placed second and third respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the festival was 23000000 Tenge. The top three prizes were 4000000, 3000000 and 2500000 each respectively. Aditya won approx. ₹710800. This is his second triumph of the year in Kazakhstan. Dreamhack Rapid and Blitz 2023 starts tomorrow in Hyderabad, Telangana. Four GMs, nine IMs, a WGM and a WIM have confirmed their participation. Total ₹500000 prize fund is up for grabs, ₹300000 for Rapid and ₹200000 for Blitz. Entry is FREE for GM, IM, WGM and WIM. For everyone else, you have to buy a ticket as per your preference which includes participation in the chess tournament. A player can register for either Rapid or Blitz or both, as per their choice. This tournament is unlike any other as it takes place inside a gaming convention, which means loud music and noise will be there throughout the day. So if you haven't registered yet, do it right away. Whoever can block out the noise, focus on their game, will win big and clinch the championship!

Grand Swiss 2023 R7: Vidit outplays Sindarov, emerges sole leader

GM Vidit Gujrathi defeated GM Javokhir Sindarov (UZB) in the seventh round of FIDE Grand Swiss 2023. The win put Vidit in the sole lead position 5.5/7. He outplayed the 44th Olympiad Gold medalist in the middlegame. After getting a winning position, the India no.4 felt that he gave his opponent some counterplay in the end which he should not have. GM Arjun Erigaisi missed a great opportunity to beat GM Andrey Esipenko. A win would have made him a coleader with Vidit. The draw puts him in the pack of 13 players who are at 5/7. IM Vaishali R defeated the reigning two-time World Blitz Women's champion, IM Bibisara Assaubayeva (KAZ). She joined the lead with GM Anna Muzychuk (UKR) and GM Antoaneta Stefanova (BUL). FM Prasannaa S scored 8/9 to win 1st Rainbow Chess Academy Rapid Rating Open 2023. He finished a half point ahead of the field. Seven players - Anup Shankar R, Gugan G, Ram Alagappan S, CM Barath Kalyan M, IM B T Murali Krishnan, Kalyani Sirin and Gokulakrishna S scored 7.5/9 each. Out of them Anup and Gugan secured second and third place respectively according to tie-breaks. Anup was the only player to beat the eventual champion, Prasannaa in the penultimate eighth round. Dinesh won the tournament due to better tie-breaks, the remaining six were placed second to seventh respectively. Dinesh, Vishnu, Arpith and Prasannaa remained undefeated among them. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹300000. The top three prizes were ₹50000, ₹30000 and ₹20000 along with a trophy each respectively. Jwalin Mehta scored a perfect 6/6 to win Akshayakalpa Organic 3rd Hyderabad Chess Centre Rapid Open 2023. He finished a half point ahead of the competition. Four players - Childvilash Sai Surapaneni, Dhruva Thota, FM Ramu K and Nidhish Shyamal scored an unbeaten 5.5/6 each. They secured second to fifth place respectively. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹60000. The top three prizes were ₹8000, ₹6000 and ₹4000 along with a trophy each. Jwalin, Md. GM Arjun Erigaisi drew against the China no.3 GM Yangyi Yu in the sixth round of FIDE Grand Swiss 2023. GM Vidit Gujrathi defeated GM Hans Niemann (USA) to join the eight player group of leaders along with Arjun. Vidit's Ba7, Bb8 maneuver in the middle game surprised the most successful chess coach of all time, GM Peter Heine Nielsen (DEN). He also quipped on twitter that maybe it was the first time, he was seeing such a maneuver to attack the c7-e5 pawn chain. GM Aravindh Chithambaram drew against GM Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB). The All-Kerala battle between GM Nihal Sarin and GM S L Narayanan ended in a draw. IM Vaishali R continues her unbeaten fantastic run to hold GM Aleksandra Goryachkina to a draw. Speaking of fantastic, GM Anna Muzychuk (UKR) defeated the sole leader - IM Bibisara Assaubayeva (KAZ) to gain sole lead for herself 5/6. She is also the only player at 5/6 currently. Ethan Vaz wins Monginis Rapid Rating Open 2023

FM Ethan Vaz and IM Sammed Shete scored 8/9 each at Monginis Rapid Rating Open 2023. Ethan won the tournament due to better tie-breaks, Sammed was placed second. IM Vikramaditya Kulkarni and IM Bhakti Kulkarni scored 7.5/9 each. They secured third and fourth place respectively. Ethan defeated both of them. Only Sammed remained undefeated among the top ten finishers. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹200000. The top three prizes were ₹35000, ₹25000 and ₹15000 along with a trophy each respectively. This is Ethan's first-ever Open Rating tournament triumph. Ethan was supposed to play World Cadets Under-12 Open 2023 in Egypt. However, he had to change his plans as the Indian contingent pulled out of the event, due to security concerns over the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict.

IM Asylbek Abdyzhapar scored 7/9 to win 2nd Tamil Nadu IM-norm Closed Circuit Chess Tournament 2023. He finished a half point ahead of the field. Despite making only 0.5/2 in the first two games, Asylbek made a strong comeback by scoring 6.5/7 in the last seven games. IM David Gochelashvili scored sole 6.5/9 to secure second place. WGM Srija Seshadri made sole 6/9 to be placed third. The winner of the first edition - FM Harshad S scored 5.5/9 to secure fourth place. IM Vaishali R continues her great form at FIDE Grand Swiss Women 2023. She drew against GM Anna Muzychuk (UKR) in the fifth round. She is also having a great event so far. IM Bibisara Assaubayeva (KAZ) defeated GM Zhongyi Tan (CHN) to gain sole lead 4.5/5. In the Open section, GM Arjun Erigaisi scored a victory against the Kazakhstan no.1, GM Rinat Jumabayev. Arjun joins GM Hikaru Nakamura (USA) and GM Andrey Esipenko in a three-way lead 4/5. GM Vidit Gujrathi shared the point with GM Evgeniy Najer.
